MasterDRD
Oblivion most certainly does NOT "do your things auto", you have to install mods yourself. And most mods I've encountered require OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) or both, both of them conveniently offered here. Of course, they can't do their job if you don't install them right. Are you familiar with extracting .zip and .rar files? How about manually copypasting files into your Oblivion/Data folder? None of this is automatic, and we can't help you if we don't know what you already know how to do, and if you refuse to accept the help we do offer you. bben46
Not every mod is going to be compatible with the other mods you have. Many mods require the latest patch, OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) or something else. Be sure to read the read me and any other documentation that come with it. OBSE here: http://obse.silverlock.org/ Patches Here: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm Be sure to get the proper language version for your version. Install new mods one at a time and test them to be sure they work before adding another one. This will save a lot of time and frustration. other recommendations. Do play the game for a while with no mods so you will know what you would like to change, and be able to tell if it actually changed what you wanted it to. DO NOT make the noob mistake of thinking you will save time loading a bunch of mods all at once. Any time you save will be more than lost in troubleshooting to find the mods that are causing problems. DO start with a simple mod. Trying to install a large complicated mod that makes a lot of changes to the game will be much more difficult if you have not installed a few simpler mods first. This one thing can save a lot of frustration. I have lost count of the number of noobs who tried to install FCOM first with no clue, then spent the next 2 weeks frantically posting on the board for help. Or just gave up and reinstalled when they couldn't get it to work. Note: I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them. http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/ If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you. Do install one mod at a time, then test to be sure it works before installing the next - the best place to test is OUTSIDE of the sewer that completes the tutorial. Make a save game there and use that one for testing new mods. The Imperial City is another good place to do testing. I usually load the end of sewers save and travel from there to the city. Walk around the city and talk to a few people. Try to get into a fight with some creature and a human too. if that works, the mod is probably OK. If the mod only affects a specific place, be sure to go there for testing. Do make sure you have the latest patch and OBSE as many mods will not work without them. Do make a back up of your data folder BEFORE adding any mods. Vanilla means the base game, with the latest patch and no mods. That is what you want to back up - Just make a new folder OUTSIDE of the Oblivion folder and copy the data folder into it - give it a name like original_data so you will be able to know what it is 3 months from now when you need it to avoid a complete uninstall and reinstall. Do use OBSE and OBMM. Wrye Bash is a great program with many functions, but you will not need them at first. OBMM will do everything you need and is much easier for a neophyte to install and use. After you have worked with mods for a while you may consider Wrye Bash. You can use both with no problems if you wish. Do read the readme and any other documentation with EVERY mod you use, as there may be differences in installing or using that mod. Do learn to use either the OBMM OMOD or the Wrye Bash BAIN installers as they make installing, removing and reinstalling mods so much easier (Pick one and stick with it) And finally, If you have problems, DO ask here, as there is always someone willing to help. CLoner5
i tried to install latest patch BUT it says an 'old file' was not found so i can't install obse n my version is orginal :wallbash:
Jenrai
Your version is original... when you say original do you mean 1.0? Or what?Where'd you get it from?If its D2D you need to get the patches from them, and OBMM won't like you, but theres a work around for that. Also, if you've got the Shivering Isles expanision pack installed (non- Game of the year edition) the normal Oblivion patch won't work, you'll just get that message - you need the Shivering Isles patch. Also, if you're downloading the wrong language patch (say you have the Oblivion English EU disk and are trying the American or Australian patch) that won't work either and you'll get the same error message. If your version is the Game of the Year edition, install Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine from that little disk called "disk 2" ... then you won't need to patch, you'll be bang up to date anyways. Lastly we're trying to help you. Being polite is not criminal and doesn't cost you a damn thing. Try it once in a while. You'll get better results, I assure you. Jbob285
Well, I have sorta the same problem... Whenever I try downloading any mods for Oblivion from Tesnexus, I press the file which should make a box come up saying which server I want to download from. But when I click the file name, nothing; just makes the internet explorer window a bit grey until I refresh or press back. I'm using Windows XP, although, I've downloaded about 100 mods already, but I went to sleep last night, went back on, found a mod that I wanted, and it did this?!? What's the matter?!? It isn't the mod, because I even tryed reinstalling the mods I got, and it still did the same. Please help!!
