Deleted800546User
I recently decided to reinstall Oblivion after a year or so of not playing. The game never gave me any problems or crashes, with or without mods. But now it seems that Oblivion doesn't want me playing it;Every time I launch the game, it shuts down at the Bethesda animation and I get the "an error has occured" windows message (Or whatever it is in English, I run a Dutch version of XP). I've never had this happen before, and I've reinstalled the game over 10 times now and it keeps happening. It's a real shame since this is such a good game. If there's any kind of fix, please help me, since I've been looking for this particular error for days now. EDIT: Might want to mention that I've tried it on a clean install, unpatched and patched installs, even unofficial patches. Nothing worked. Start with looking at Bben's Crash Help http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=298How to clean your computer http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=304andComplete uninstall/reinstall procedure http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 Is this the same computer that you installed it on the last time? ptbptb
Yup, no changes made.No re-formats or anything. Yeah, I think the most likely problem is something to do with lurking registry settings from when you last uninstalled it. It's not uncommon to have problems after uninstalling / reinstalling. Deleted800546User
Mhm, well I'm defragging my computer now, and I cleaned the registry using Ccleaner (that I happened to already have installed). I hope this works, but I'm having a feeling it will :P EDIT: No luck, still crashing :(

ptbptb
Haven't changed anything, hardware wise. Afraid I'm stumped then. BBen or someone might have an idea when they come past.
Qwaxalot
Try renaming or deleting the oblivion.ini file (...\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini) Oblivion will then redetect hardware. It will also, probably, not recognize your video card and set everything to medium. Just change the settings according to what you think your card will support (You can always change them later)
