tikigod113
Hello everyone, I am trying to install these 4 mods and I'm running into a lot of trouble. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16932 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18590 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25922 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16645 When I install the mods they look like that they will work in game (everything is activated in OBMM). I make a OMOD file right after I download the mods (hit add archive when I'm at the create omod window in OBMM). Then when I go to the location of where the armor is said to be in game it doesn't show up.What am I doing wrong? I have the HG Eyecandy Body mod installed properly If anyone could help me that would be great, thank you. P.S. If this helps at all, I'm using the Mystic Elf custom race, would that effect things? David Brasher
What happens if you just install one of the mods and try to get it working? Installing multiple mods at once is often inadvisable. It seems like you ought to be able to at least generate a bunch of missing mesh symbols. If that isn't happening, then something serious is going on. I have not jumped on the OMOD bandwagon. It seems like more work for the modder and more work for the gamer, and problems still occur, even though OMOD format is supposed to stop them from happening. Furthermore, I have downloaded and played about a hundred mods, and only one of them was in OMOD format, so it seems like for the type of mods I download, it might not be worth retooling and gaining the education needed to use the silly format. I suggest that you follow the installation instructions of the four mods in question and install them the traditional way they instruct you to, if they do not say anything about OMOD. If you can get them working and figure out what is wrong, then you can put them into OMOD later.
tikigod113
Hello, and thanks for responding! I think one of the reasons my mods aren't working is because I didn't install Oblivion Script Extender. I know for some mods in fallout that you need the script extender. I'm thinking it may be the same thing. I'm attempting to re-install everything, a fresh start might do a world of good. I'm going to post results later
Maigrets
None of the armour mods you listed require OBSE. I'm wondering if your game is patched to the latest version. If not this is the main reason mod content doesn't show in game and depending on the mod can also cause crashes. Be sure to get the correct patch for your region and either for Oblivion only or Shivering Isles, if you have it, not both. This is patch 1.2.0416. I personally think OMOD's are over-rated. It may simplify installing and is a good format for large mods with a lot of files and folders, especially if the author has provided OMOD conversion data or the OMOD itself. OBMM is an excellent too, but, as David Brasher said, errors do occur. It's my preference to install manually and I think new users should also learn to do it this way to get some understanding of what a mod contains. The best way to do it is to create a temporary folder on your hard drive and extract the mod files into it. Then cut and paste them to your Oblivion\data directory after making sure everything is present. For example, if there's supposed to be a Sound folder make sure it's there. Sometimes a mod is packed inside a data folder within the archive you download. This often confuses the issue because if you extract it directly to the Oblivion\data folder you end up with a Data folder inside the Data directory and the game can't find the files it needs. If that's the case, either move that Data folder to the main Oblivion directory or open the folder and move it's contents to the Oblivion\data directory. Readme's don't always reflect this, that is if they have a readme at all. Manually installing is essential if there's no decent description of what the mod does or if there's potential to ruin your game. Depending on what kind of mod it is I avoid them if the author can't be bothered to include proper a proper description of what it does, especially if it's going to make radical changes to the mechanics of the game. There should also be details of potential issues, if any, and instructions on how to remove the mod correctly if problems occur. Having said that, it's also the responsibility of the user to read and understand instructions given in Readme's to avoid user created mistakes. However, none of the armour mods you asked about have any problems. I've used a couple of them in the past with no issues. The above is my opinion only. Others may differ...
