Ah zprospero beat me to it ;D.

the NIf as the Colorless object and the .dds as the colors.

Nifs are created outside of it. If you just modified 'a color' (did some retexturing) you have two options.

Either use the old Nif, the deadric helmet so it'll be a replacement (Every single daedric helm will be replaced by it.)

Or Copy the Nif, give it a new name and assign a new helmet in CS.

The last one always has my preference. So how to do that!?

How To Create New Re-Textured Items

If you haven't done yet, it's a good idea to get all of the Oblivion .BSA Unpacked at the moment you start stuff like this, searching and extracting them individually only takes a lot of time.

It sort of looks like you still didn't get my mod working: Daedric Armor of Darkness

Why don't you just mod the mod? All you would have to do is use Gimp and open up and change Oblivion\Data\Textures\Armor\Daedric Armor of Darkness\Darknesshelmet.nif. You can make it any shade or color you like and it will appear in the game. (You would want to have a backup in case a particular set of changes looked wrong.)

You have to extract the .nif from the Oblivion Meshes BSA, then open it with

Nifskope (a free .nif file editor) and change the texture path to your new texture.

This is the tutorial that I learned how to retexture with: Better Retextures

It is written specifically for GIMP and Nifskope.

-edit- sorry for double post, but im following this tut EXACTLY, and when im done gimping my cuirass, my nifskope shows no change in anything.
