critchell
I had an 'interesting' conversation with bethesda tech support. It went something like this:EDIT: (These emails took place over a period of around 3 days) Me: When attempting to add a custom radio station using the G.E.C.K, all works fine until I attempt to add a new topic. I add the 'RadioHello' ID and then when I right click and select 'new' under 'info' to the right, the G.E.C.K stops responding completely and a Microsoft error report appears. Is there a fix? Beth: Please use the steps below to record and send us the information about the current installation of DirectX on the computer. We need this detailed information in order to assist in troubleshooting the issue at hand. No personal information is contained in the report. [blah blah blah instructions on how to make the DxDiag file] Me: The DxDiag.txt file as requested. Also, my graphics card is a GeForce 8200, not a 9200. Windows updates installed a new driver and for some reason it has mis-recognised my card as the 9200. Beth: Hello Michael,Oblivion was developed and released before Windows Vista. We cannot guarantee the operation or functionality of the game in a Windows Vista operating system. We have no information on if updates are planned for the product to include Windows Vista support. Also, neither Nvidia Geforce 9200 nor Nvidia Geforce 8200 graphics cards are supported, if you have issues with new driver, please either redownload the update or contact Nvidia. You can try the following, but we cannot guarantee the operation of Oblivion. [random troubleshooting stuff] Me: Not to be annoying but this was an enquiry about the Fallout 3 G.E.C.K. I had a separate enquiry about The Elder Scrolls Construction Set that i sent yesterday. The Oblivion customer number was 400372141 (as stated above), the Fallout 3 customer number was 400366380. Beth: Hello,Please note that no official support for G.E.C.K is available from Bethesda Technical support, these tools are released as is for users to use. Please visit the G.E.C.K wiki at http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Main_Page for assistance with using G.E.C.K to create your own content._______________________________________________________________ It took all that to tell me i was on my own. minutegold
Well, that's how it is. I use an XP image under VMware to edit quests. If you don't have a VMware license, try the free (and excellent) VirtualBox, and if you don't have an XP license you could try your favorite Linux distro and wine. pkleiss
This might sound weird, but try plugging a microphone into your mic jack. This has stopped the GECK crashing when trying to enter a new quest info with some PC's that use certain audio cards. I forgot which cards. If this works for you, please post your audio card, so I will then remember.
minutegold
I think it were Realtek drivers that are suspected to cause this problems. I will try this tomorrow and report back with my findings.
