rebelwarlock
I would have thought opening up her inventory would let me do it (or maybe it does and I just missed it), but after I give her an item, I have no idea how to equip it. If I click it again, it just goes back to my inventory. I'm sure I just don't know what to do and there's no mod error here. Any thoughts?
Jenrai
Take any original item off of her that she has equipped in the same slots... that should make her switch. Usually, CM's usually automatically use whatever they have that is best for the job in hand. Jenrai
rebelwarlock
I was trying to give her rings, and by default she has none equipped. I even tried taking away everything else in her inventory (she doesn't have much).
bben46
Give her some time. She may not equip a new item instantly. But I would expect rings to be fairly quick if she doesn't have any.
Jenrai
Alternatively, give her them, then go start a fight. If they are stat/ability booster rings she will likely equip them before or during combat. Not sure how often the scripts run and I'm not using CM at the minute, though I do have it installed somewhere. If they are pose/animation rings, scratch all that. She's not gonna be much use to you if she starts dancing when the ten Bandits jump on you. Though it would look bloody funny. Jenrai
Balakirev
Apropos of all this, we really need a good file that explains companion conduct: how they work up skills, when they equip items; when they swap weapons (assuming they do); how much they can carry; whey they'll allow the player to steal--or not; etc. There may even be a file like this around, but if so, I haven't seen one. A lot is either conjecture, or experiment. Would be nice to have something we could point inquiries to. And no, I'm not volunteering, because I've never modded a companion. Just a thought. Maigrets
Are you talking about Red Sonia?http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13017 If it's Red Sonia the reason for the weapon issue is because the sword you give her must be better than her default sword, otherwise she will revert to her own. She will also retrieve her own sword anyway, even if you take it away from her, but will use another weapon only if it has better stats than her own. She is set up a a pure warrior so she may not even use bows. And as far as rings goes ThePriest909 told me that they have no effect. I don't know if this is the case or not, but I asked for a water breathing ring because she would drown if I went into water too long. It did seem to help. The reason I know a bit about Red Sonia is because I wrote the books and Beta tested her from start to finish. It was awhile ago now though, so I don't remember all the nuances. Most of it is outlined in the Readme, including the part about weapons and her inventory. Alternatively, if it's a CM Partner called Sonia, I can't help. I don't use any companions except my own creatures.
