Any way to fix how ugly ears are on human-races (as in non-elf/animal races)?

I noticed this while making a new character and holy Jesus are the ears ugly... They're blocky and don't fit right, and look generally disgusting. I thought I might have screwed up a mod or something, but after looking at others' screenshots, I noticed I'm not the only one who has horribly ugly ears in their game. Searched for a mod but no dice.

I saw a report that the game engine doesn't even render the ears using the same lighting as the rest of the body. I don't actually know enough about that stuff to confirm or disprove it, but I think it's safe to say there are game limitations (neck seam is another example).

 

Hats, helmets, wigs and neck seam concealing necklaces.
