How to export OBJ from Blender?

How do you successfully export an obj file from Blender?

I'm trying to make a small change to the horse mesh. I imported the horse mesh OBJ file into Blender with no trouble, but now when I try to export the OBJ file back out of Blender, it's invisible in nifskope... scratch that, it's TINY. Why is Blender making my horse so small????

Help? What's going wrong? Do I need to change the export settings?

I tried unchecking 'rotate 90', but the OBJ file still won't load correctly into nifskope...

(It would be very nice if someone would actually reply to this - my last 4 threads asking for help were completely ignored.)

You need to scale up OBJ by 10 before exporting them. Also uncheck the Rotate X90 when exporting.

Your horse will be static as an obj though. To keep the bone weight you need to import/export as a nif.

The normals are ruined as well...is that something that would also be fixed by importing/exporting as a nif?

This might help:

start by these ones, if only to review the basics and compare to your own workflow:

http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/1920-exporting-static-meshes-for-skyrim-from-blender/

http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/4457-exporting-models-from-blender-to-skyrim-because-all-the-other-tutorials-are-missing-something/

then, going further:

http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/5604-advanced-blender-269-skyrim-export/

Collisions - though there might be simpler ways to do it, nowadays:

http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/1187-blender-in-depth-collisioning-tutorial/

Granted, focused on exporting static meshes, though a lot of settings and steps of the workflow should be useful for other kind of meshes, I guess.

As for the normals, two of the most common hurddles are:

- inverted Y (green channel), depending of which methods and tools you used to create your normals. quickly resolved in your favorite 2D app.

- tangent space issue in nifskope (and yes, usually from your export settings, not nifkope fault) : solved by going to the spell menu, then "update all tangent space". If your tangent space data are grayed out in the property list of your nitrishape data, then it's another easily solvable issue, which we could talk more if that's indeed your issue (and I don't remember all the details just from memory, at the moment).

hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I'll try doing this when I get home from work today. It's just all so complicated compared to the modding I've been doing up until now... ;_;

I guess I better pull on my big girl pants, though. My mod won't be finished until I clear this hurdle.

I'll definitely let you know if I encounter any of those issues you mentioned. Thanks again.
