Performance problems

Update: I deactivated ALL the mods, and still with only me and the dark elf in the opposite cell, it was around 24 fps, ~~18 when moving around. Up to 44 in fps mode.

 

Then I renamed the meshes and textures folders... And there was almost NO change, so it rules out the body and clothes replacers. FPS went up by only ~2-4 fps with no custom meshes and textures.

Have you tried using PyFFI? That can improve performance. Also a properly configured OSR can work wonders with low framerates.

 

Next, you can try look at the website in my signature to see if there is anything there that can help.

I've read it, nothing I tried worked. It's just Oblivion, just now I've been playing through Resident Evil 5, Prince of Persia (2008) and Bioshock 2 without any problems. The only other game I had to tweak is GTA IV, but at the same settings as consoles it runs fine.

 

Maybe I'll update my current load order (huge, I know, but checked the game without any mods and custom models/textures, and the fps difference never exceeded ~4):

Well, I've installed Dual Core Optimizer from AMD, I'm gonna see if it helps. Also, can you recommend any good driver-removal software? I'll try removing my graphics card drivers and installing them again.

 

Also, checked in task managed, my cpu is never actually used at 100% by Oblivion, it keeps oscillating at ~60-70%. Of two cores, though, so I have no idea if some unthreaded engine in it isn't clocking 100% of one core.

 

Also, all the other numbers that appear when I type 'tdt' in console stay at 0 when the framerate goes diving.

First, Oblivion isn't optimised for multiple cores whereas Fallout 3 is. Hence, you probably have one core running at 100% and the other core takes up the rest of the workload in your PC. To remove GPU drivers, I just go to the Control Panel -> Programs and Features and uninstall them from the list that appears.

 

If you followed the suggestions in Tweakguides.com's Tweakguide for Oblivion, there isn't really anything else that anyone can suggest for your INI file.

 

Are you sure you didn't try OSR? Numerous people say that they noticed at least some performance improvement after they installed it.

 

And lastly, I notice you aren't using the Bashed Patch in Wrye Bash. For a load order that large, you should most likely have it installed. I'm just saying for stability and compatibility reasons, not necessarily performance reasons.

Oblivion only allows 255 slots for mods. That is hardwired and cannot be changed. Go over that and it will crash.

 

There is another limit that few people ever get near. And that is when you get about 400 mods in the data folder it can cause problems - never hear of a slow down though.It usually just crashes. However, as it does talk about hard dive thrashing that could be a cause of slowdown. One report of the problem starting at between 325 & 375 from a very creditable source (Dev-Akm)

 

Try moving any unused mods out of the data folder, and completely out of the oblivion folder. If you use Wrye Bash, there is a feature just for this called auto-ghost See this link from Wrye for details http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=941296

 

One known cause of hard drive thrashing is needing a defrag. another is old texture and mesh files from mods tha the esp was removed, but the textures and meshes left behind. The game has to read through all of those old files to find the one it is looking for. If you use either BAIN or OMOD to manage your mod installs, everything will be removed.
