Question about Ghouls

I have two questions regarding ghouls and I couldn't find anything searching under "karma" and "reaver".

1. Why do you get good karma for killing ghouls? I understand from a story point of view... I'm asking where in the GECK it gives you karma. I don't see any kind of check box under the individual creatures so I'm guessing there's a script somewhere? Or is this a general script for "evil" characters? I'd like to modify a mod I'm using to remove karma for killing ghouls.

2. I have literally opened the fallout 3 GECK and the fallout new vegas GECK side by side and done a comparison and I can't figure out why the Reavers in Fallout 3 were such badasses, but the Reavers in NV are terribly easy. Can someone explain this? They have the exact same stats in both games... again, unless there's a script I'm missing, since I really have no idea where to even find scripts, let alone understand them. I thought I could easily copy the stats from Fallout 3 and make the Reavers powerful again, but it seems it's a lot harder than that. If it's not a script, then the only conclusion I can come to is that the PC is actually more powerful in NV by comparison.

Thank you for your time.

1.whenever you kill a character set to evil/very evil you get good karma just they why it is.

2.they took away the reaver's gore throw attack and made him weaker, thats all i really know on the reaver.

1. So is it inherent in the game's source code, or can it be changed in the GECK?

2. I realize that, but I can't figure out why they have identical statistics in the GECK along with calling the same scripts.

1. Nope, you can easily change it in the GECK (open up the actor which you want to change, in this case a ghoul, and set the alignment box in the traits tab to whatever you want it to be).

2. The gore throw attack is not a script, it's an ability which is called in the actor window (can't actually remember where, but it's in one of the tabs).

1. Isn't that more of a work around? I guess I don't care if it works, but they're set to evil now. If I set them to neutral, they won't be aggressive will they?

2.

Every field is identical as near as I can tell except scripts. And ironically the New Vegas version seems to have way more scripts attached to it. (the FO3 version is on the right in that image, not that it matters)

1. Nope, don't worry about that- their aggression is determined by the faction which they are in, and their level of aggression set in the AI tab.

That is where the reavers receive their abilities from (I don't have a Fallout 3 copy of the GECK so I can't compare it, but that is where you'll find the good stuff).

That's exactly the screen shot I posted. Side by side, FONV and FO3. They have identical traits. Something's fishy.

  • 1 month later...

They changed the damage resistance / damage threshold system from fallout 3 to new vegas, which could make them more susceptible to damage from attacks. also many weapons were made more powerful (like the hunting and laser rifles). so this could be the reason for why they're easier to damage. also, the radiation bomb attack (or whatever it's called) is pretty much the most powerful attack ever (exaggeration), so removing a very valuable attack like that may make them seem like they're doing less damage.

The fo3 version has 1100 health and the NV version has 180. The FO3 version also attacks for 100 whereas the NV version is 40. Just open up the stat tab. Here is a pic, FO3 reaver is at the top;
