Hey, check out my tutorials site (Tutorials Abound!). There is a good one there about how to install and use mods, Ben's Oblivion Support. It should help with the basics of mod usage. If you need more info, try to post a more specific question or procedure. Then we could get a better idea of what you are having problems with.

hope this helps,

Windows 7 utilizes the (in)famous UAC controls that Vista used. Thats likely your problem, especially seeing as 7z and rar won't work either.

I'm still an xp user (because microsoft are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. They've actually admitted releasing programs early to have the public test them for them - thats fine, until you realise we have to pay full price for a borked program. I'll do free beta testing but you aren't charging me through the nose to the priviledge ... /endrant)

Back on topic...

zip & rar programs.

I think you need to right click on the 7z exe and go to properties or something similar, and give yourself full admin rights.

Oblivion Mods.

Not sure about the UAC thing norking up Oblivion (don't think it does. Useless' tutorials are handy, and Bben has some great ones too) but you don't want Oblivion installing to the default location or you will have problems. Best bet is to install it straight to a root directory. (IE- C:Oblivion as opposed to C:Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion) Basically, don't put it in program files.

Mod Manager

I'd give myself full admin rights on this one too, just to avoid problems in the future. Not 100% sure you'll get any, but it changes stuff, for example when you activate/deactivate an omod, so it will likely need permission too.

PS - I just reread your post... if you don't have an zip program, that would also bork up your chance of getting anything from .rar or .7zip files. Download 7zip here to unpack compressed files and folders.

Rar, 7z and zip files are compressed and must be uncompressed before using. 7-zip is the best program to use - and it is absolutely FREE for personal and commercial use. It is also available here on the nexus for FREE.

7-zip http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579

When you uncompress it you will find the esp you are looking for, along with any other files needed to make the mod work.
