necaeum
I know there are a bunch of leveling mods for Oblivion but none of them just felt right for me. Best so far was "Balor's Levelling - Vehem Edition" but it did have a few problems. Here is what I thought would be good: When you gain a skill you gain attribute points and points towards next level. A point in a major skill gains you 0,5 points and 1 "exp". A point in a minor skill gains you 0,25 points and 0,5 exp. As normal, you need 10 exp for a level. When you gain a level you gain 5 attribute points and 5 skill points to spend freely. There could also be a rule against putting the points to a major skill you have increased for 5-10 points, so that your maximum skill increase would be 10 and you could'nt lift it over 5 using awarded points. I have not yet decided wether the awarded skill points should raise the governing attribute or not, but I reckon it is only a minor issue. Example:You have increased blade for 4 points whacking monsters. Now you may add only one point so your total blade skill increase will be 5 this level. You have also increased block for 6 points blocking vegetables your wife was throwing at you. Now you can't add any points to this even though you would like to, since your wife looks like she is going to throw something bigger next time. You didn't increase any points in atheletics, but you add the remaining 4 points to it so that you can run if things start flying again. It would also be important that level increase would happen as soon as your exp reaches 10 or alternatively you wouldn't get skill increases until you sleep and raise your level. This would be so that your level would be in keeping with your attributes and skills(since the monsters level too). The leveling part might be a bit difficult to code, but this mod would be very true to the original system. It assumes you will pick your main combat skills as major skills, or you will become too powerful too fast due to the leveling of monsters. Also, the skill points awarded should be used for major skills or you risk having a weak character(unless you only train the major skills). This mod has a drawback however, since I'm sure Bethesda was trying everything not to include awarded skill points. In my opinion it wouldn't ruin the game, though. So do you guys think this mod would make any sense? Could it be done? Anyone willing to code it? I had only played the game for one day when this mod idea hit me while I was trying to get some sleep. Please let me know if there is already a similar or just any good leveling mod either being done or already finished. I tried to find one but the game is just too new I guess. I most likely forgot something from the post but I'm sure you get the idea.
silverstar
I'd rather see a level mod where it takes 20 points to go up 1 level, but it can be between any of the skills(major and minor), with a direct tie-in between skill and stat(as listed in the manual). But, have it so you gain 1.5-2 points for each major skill level up(since then they would be the skills you'd use the most and would be the most adept in). And to have the 100-max removed, both from skills and stats. Run the luck increase to 1 point every 1.3 levels(every 3rd level you'll gain 2 luck points). This way, it would make sense that the more you use your major skills, the faster your related attributes would rise, while all the minor skills rise a bit slower in comparison, and you would never have to sleep to gain your level. It would also mean that it'd be a dumb idea to do random power levelings just for the sake of it(raising Alchemy to 100 by making tons of potions and raising Alteration by constantly casting Protect until it reaches a free point where you gain more MP than it takes to cast it, per period), because it would make the monsters stronger while your skills to fight them don't go up to match. necaeum
20 points in any skill to level would mean that you could get 20 points to your major skills per level and the original system only gives you 10. This might make the game a bit too easy if you use your major skills a lot. Besides, you would be getting 40 attribute points per level if you get 2 points per skill point and train only major skills. Of course my mod idea should limit spending the gained skill points in major skills so that the maximum increase would be 10 points to major skills per level. The good thing about this would be that it is very true to the original system. However, the bad thing would be that getting skill points per level would cripple the original game idea slightly. But I would like it more that way ; ) I kind of meant this to be a balanced alternative to automatic leveling because I like choosing where to put my skill points and hate having to some minor skill to get the modifiers. Hmm... The attribute modified to minor skills could be set to 0,15. This would make it quite interesting as now if you train a minor skill you get more skill points per level, but your attributes and major skills would suffer. Thanks for the idea. The mod you are describing is actually quite close to some existing mods. Your mod would just be easier to play since you have those 'crazy' modifiers.
