Forgotten Civilization

OCC Ok Lord of Cheese, if u want the mer to die I'll link him with the story I began last post.

Jack, now having regained his wits had dived behind a tree and the arrows whizzed past him. He stood up and ran towards the mer. He threw a swift, strong punch and caught the mer in the jaw. He then whipped his arm around him and held his dagger next to the mer's throat.

' Listen lad, old Jack doesn't like being messed around by those to whom he's given his trust. I'll be taking my property back,' he took what was his.

'Now, I'm not a vindictive man, so I won't kill you; but I will be needing these weapons', he took the mers bow and his darts, ' Now get out of here! I don't want to see you again!' As he released the mer he kicked him away to start him running.

But to his utter suprise the mer turned and hissed like a like a wounded animal. He struggled with Jack and prised his sword out of his hand. He used this to pierce his own chest and cried out in pain:

"What do you know Jaaack" (his voice was unrecognisable), "the Old Ones are coming, you have violated their home" (he paused), "they are Coming. They are FEAR!"

With a final shriek the mer breathed his last. This had left Jack very disturbed, and in his last moments had sounded like the hooded stranger. What worried him, was not the insanity itself, but how fast it had overtaken him. From what he could tell, the mer had been sane when he first saw him some hours back in the tree house. Something had devourered his mind.

Jack then noticed a strange rock on the floor next to the mer, it had fallen out of his pocket. It was a carving showing strange reptillian animals, they looked hideous. The stone felt cold to the touch, and felt slimy.

Jack wondered what this all meant. It seemed that there was *something* in the forest, the so-called 'old ones'. He wondered where the mer had been going, it was certainly deeper into the forest. Perhaps he had been heading towards the 'Old Ones'. It seemed clear that whoever the Old Ones were, they were to be avoided by man.

However, Jack Lethan was no ordinary man. To Jack the idea of 'Old Ones' filled his mind with lost jungle cities of gold, a kind of forgotten civilisation, yes, perhaps that was what the hooded stranger was trying to find.

Jack licked his lips at the thought of gold. He brushed back his hair and again felt proud of himself. He was now back to his old self - the courteous rouge. He picked up his now decent equipment and headed on in dignity.

"Greetings friend," said Jack, "no I did not kill this mer, in fact he slayed himself, I cannot speak for the hooded man but I think he suffered an even worse fate. I don't know what you are doing in these woods, but by the looks of you, you're having no better luck than I."

"Something has been stirred in these woods, some sort of evil prescense, it seems to eat away at one's mind, I'm here by chance but I intend to solve this mystery, and perhaps exploit it if I can. I suggest you stay with me, Jack Lethan at your service".

Jack and Kevin marched through the trees, talking as they went, the humidity had now got uncomfortable. As they walked along they lashed at the thick foliage.

Suddenly, the trees ended, to their suprise they found themselves in a huge concealed valley, they could make out ruins dotted around they place.

Jack smelt gold..

" I back down to no challenge. But now, my heart feels cold, as if fear is a part of the air here. I'll go on no matter what, but if you want to turn back now you won't be any less the man"

Jack and Kevin began to decend into the valley, while the forest was humid, this place was deadly cold and open. While this valley was huge and contained many ruins, Jack could not see a single man or mer anywhere near here. He took out the statue he picked up, to his suprise, the eyes on the carved serpent seemed to be glowing a deep red. For the first time in years, Jack was afraid.

"the air itself seems dead, i dont believe there are anycreatures here, any living anyways....yet i have a strange feeling about this place, as if its calling to me...i have never told you this, but, kevin isnt my real name...i dont know what it is and no one does....i have....a mysterious past...i seem to have appeared about five years ago....no trace of anything...and no memory...if you wish to stay back....that is fine....but i must find out about this place...."

kevin pushed forward through the foliage to what he believed was the center of the valley....

Jack considered what Kevin had said. "Sounds like me after a night in Wayrest, but no, tell me friend, do you have any clues to your past, and distant memories, any possesions you had with you?"

Jack looked down at his statue, the eyes were redder than ever. Then he stopped, he heard faintly the sound of a reptillian hiss...
