a) The Frostbite Engine ("Frostbite3", in this case) is notoriously mod-unfriendly.

b) EA/BioWare has NOT said "No Toolset" for DA:I." They've said "It's not a priority". (Although I do believe that there will not be one.)

c) If it's ever to be created, it'll be up to DICE more than BioWare to produce such an application.

d) I'm guessing that the best we can hope for is a few appearance mods, à la the Mass Effect-series.

So overall, I think you're right.

The mass effect 3 mod tools on nexus and elsewhere will work with some modifications. Even with the little time I have used ME3 explorer, I've found it a powerful tool to transition over along with its toolkit. A saved game editor might also be useful and gibbed save game editor should work w/o too much effort.

It seems even the character developers desire a DLC structure to protect unique character attributes, associated quests and the like while providing a common upgrade path within inquisitions, so DLC editor functions will be needed more than ever. Remember the RPG elements that govern companion behavior are post frostbite 3 and designed by the inquisition team in house -well, sort of - they probably borrowed a few engineers from the frostbite staff.

Don't expect a common override folder for inquisitions, its a different engine from DAO.

Here is what I'm going to say about the no toolkit thing

1. Bioware may or may not create one that is correct?

--A: if they don't make one i can see the big time modders creating a patch for the entire game creating a toolkit to make it easier for others and themselves to mod

2. the only reason they don't want mods to be allowed is

--A: they want their DLC's to be bought

3. if they do release a toolkit more likely they will put a price on it as high as their game original price was

its a shame but this is how gaming companies are going the main reason all these singleplayer games are going

multi-player is to stop people from modding their games they are jelly of modders because they cant believe half the stuff you all create

it is just a huge war between mods and the developers because they will see a nice mod someone made and want to use it I have talked to a few gaming company's about it

and they said the reason they wont touch them is because they cannot license them because they did not make it to begin with now think about that and then look at some games who

used mods someone else made and took full credit for it.

@Shahiko;

I have been in contact with senior BioWare staff for several years now and I think every single assertion in your post is mistaken.

a) BioWare would not be the ones developing the Toolset. That would be DICE, (also a division of EA) the developers of the FrostBite game engine. BioWare have repeatedly said that they are not opposed, but they simply aren't going to devote any of their resources to the effort.

b) There is absolutely zero evidence that mods detract from DLC sales. While the data are hard to quantify, what little exist point to increasing both base-game and DLC sales by increasing the popularity and longevity of individual titles. BioWare are will aware of this.

(As a side issue, BioWare have granted modders permission to use their assets from the DA-series for mods for any of the games in the series. Want to put that Tallis armour from DA2-MotA into a mod for DAA? Go ahead! Pro Tip: It'll be tough. Tallis' armour is a full body set. )

c) Neither BioWare nor EA have ever charged for a toolset. I can't really follow the rest of your third point, but if it's that basically; "Game developers stay away from officially supporting and/or incorporating 'community-developed content' (aka 'mods') because they don't want the hassles of figuring out who actually has the rights to what", then I agree with you. But that's a whole 'nother issue. :geek:

But "jealousy" isn't a factor. The admiration for various modders' works that I've seen expressed by the developers I know has been effusive!

Thandal

Hey Thandal what is your input on what modders will do in your oppinion of course about inquisition when this game was first announced in my head i was like jeese i see modders going crazy with this and fully extending the boundaries of the entire game think of skyrim they released a creation kit to give people the freedom to do whatever they want they were not expecting anyone to go as far as Faalskar fully voiced and everything

im just wondering what you think ^.^

Well...

My opinion about what will happen with mods for DA:I is expressed in the second post to this topic.

My opinion about what BioWare think of mods in general is expressed in the seventh.

My opinion about what BioWare think of full full add-on adventures like these:

Alley of Murders
Baldurs Gate II Redux - Module 1 Irenicus' Dungeon
Dragon Age Dark Times ACT I
Fragments of Ferelden
Pints and Quarts Tavern
Thirst
Swamp Tower Adventure
The Carrion Birds - Quest
THE ISLE OF BROKEN DREAMS
Kal Sharok
Rose of Eternity - Family and Country
Dragon Age Uprising Act I
Trouble in Rainesfere
And many, many more...

is that the developers of DA:I would be absolutely delighted if anyone were able to create something like that.

As I said, every BioWare person I've spoken with or seen comment in public has been supportive of mods and modders, but a DA:I Toolset just isn't on on their to-do list. And the last time anyone from DICE said anything about the subject was over three years ago, and then it was only a "Maybe someday..."

Since Frostbite is mod-unfriendly, does this also include appearance mods and/or appearance overhauls? In DA2 there were quite a number of them and based what I do know of such things it would be possible, no?
