MonsterHunterMaster
to see which version you have, start the game and then you can see the version in the bottom left corner...
Qwaxalot
Try renaming or deleting the oblivion.ini file (...\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini) Oblivion will then redetect hardware. It will also, probably, not recognize your video card and set everything to medium. Just change the settings according to what you think your card will support (You can always change them later)
carloschrevelius
qwax is that for the update or just general?
Qwaxalot
According to your first post you are already updated to the most current version (1.2.0416). You can verify this two ways, either on the main menu, lower left corner, or by right clicking on your "Oblivion.exe" file and checking properties. Deleting or renaming the .ini forces Oblivion to reevaluate your hardware. If this doesn't work, it's possible that your Oblivion.exe file has become corrupt. In which case you'll have to reinstall and repatch. Sorry Qwaxalot
Jenrai
When it says it couldn't find the file its usually because its already up to date, Carlo. But it doesn't normally cause errors like this (at least, not that I have heard/seen) if you try to run the patch anyways. If you've got the Game of the Year edition and have installed Shivering Isles from that it is up to date. Does it do this whenever you try to start a new game, with different races and such? If so, I think Quax may be right and your .exe is corrupt. Mods don't usually alter the .exe (and it would have to be a pretty messed up mod if it did) so you are likely correct in assuming that its not a mod thats done this. bben46
You say "im quite new to the forums and the site and i think it won't be the mods i have download." Why is that? Mods can cause all kinds of unexpected consequences. If the game says it is the latest version why don't you believe it? Unless you have an illegal version. Pirate versions come with all kinds of nightmares included, such as various malwware, incomplete versions, missing files, mixed versions and whatever the kid who uploaded it to the pirate site thought was 'kewl'. A favorite trick of malware writers is to stick their malware into a game upload on a pirate site. If your antivirus or antispyware will no longer update or run properly it's a dead giveaway that you have been infected. If you don't have an antivirus and antispyware, its a very high probability that you are infected. FYI, discussing pirated material in any way, including asking for help with pirated versions is not just against the rules but will get an instant ban. A word to the wise is usually sufficient. Now, do any of the mods you have - including any you have in your data folder, but not activated - require OBSE? or possibly some other mod to work?If you don't know, read the read me and any other documentation that came with each mod. If you don't have OBSE, and you don't know, please give us a load order so we can help. How to post a Load order list article http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=295 Your language version may help also, as some mods have problems with language versions they were not written for.
