I am having difficulty running Zumbs Lockpicking v1.2 OBSE onto one of my current save files. Whenever I load an old save, the fps slows to an unjustified unplayable crawl. I tried to do some troubleshooting on my own with my extremely limited knowledge of mods and technical issues. So I started using by appealing to my common sense and creating a new game. Surprised as I was, everything was fine and dandy. No lag, nothing; just clear and crisp gameplay. All the mods I have were playable from the minor tweaks to the major overhauls.

 

I didn't know what to do at this point because it seems that the issue is perhaps how the mod is applied to a current save? To be honest, I have no idea. I tried searching for strings with similar issues, but I couldn't find any. I highly highly doubt that I am the first to encounter such a problem.

 

I try to always create new saves when saving and delete old ones, but it the problem is consistent with all of my save files. The only remedy I know of at this point is to start a new game, but I would sooner delete it and continue with what I have then start a new game. I would truly appreciate it, if someone would let me know of a way to solve this problem without having to create a new game.

Savegames often get corrupted. In some cases they are so bad you can't load them. If some of your savegames are lagged so bad that they crawl, but others aren't, then I would suspect corrupted savegames rather than your computer hardware or your mod combination. I don't know if you can really doctor savegames much. The usual solution is to play a different savegame and save over the bad one so you won't accidentally use it again. But if every single one of your savegames for that character is corrupted, you might be out of luck and have to start a new character. If you were a great modder and could understand the aspects of all the mods you were running and pinpoint the cause of lag, it might be possible to devise some console commands to salvage your savegames. But alas, you have a great many mods running.

 

I suppose you have tried disabling mods and waiting, and moving between worldspaces and all sorts of in-game stuff to see if the problem will just go away?

I have seen warnings about running many mods in more places than one, but I was determined get them running cohesively and to a great extent, I have succeeded. I played around with all of these mods, lurked on forums, befriended google and got pretty familiar with obmm, wrye bash, and TESCS to finally be able to get them all working cleanly, and smoothly. Perhaps it was just luck that I unearthed this problem as I was loading the last of the mods on my wish-list so to speak.

 

Unfortunately, I am not a great modder. That being said, I have tried disabling various mods, changing installation order, waiting to see if the problem solves itself, walking through loading screens, etcetera. To be honest, I really think that it's a savegame problem.

 

However, I'm not so sure that the savegame is corrupted. If I unload the Zumbs mod, I get a healthy and relatively consistent 40ish fps at high resolution, large textures, and other tweaked features with the same savegame that previously ran at an fps of 1 on the same settings. Perhaps the savegame is just bloated or confused? (I'm not 100% sure that I know what those terms mean in this context)

 

I'm already in contact with Zumb, but the reason I posted here was because I think the issue may not be the mod itself (although I am inclined to believe that the issue is brought to the surface by the mod in some way). Zumb created a fun and immersive mod through his own sweat. The blame for this issue is not his; it is my own. I should have been more thorough in my mod tests and adding before getting caught up in the game itself.

 

In any case, I'll try a few more things along with whatever Zumb might come up with and hope someone may know of a tangible solution that doesn't involve reburning 37 hours of gameplay into my fingers, eyes, brain and hard-drive. Worst case scenario, I probably just not use the mod.

Use Wrye Bash to check for save game bloating (it can fix it too) The dreaded A-bomb (animations running slow) can also be brought on faster by mods and fixxed by using Bash's abomb fixer on the saves, though your problem sounds somewhat more severe than that.

I'd also try waiting in an interior cell with no NPCs for 14 days (no need to save. You'll know straight away if it worked anyways) to fully reset all cells.

I would load the save without Zumbos mod active (In fact I would remove the Mod altogether as Oblivion reads all esps even though they are unchecked)

 

Then coc testing hall, wait at least 5 days, go back to the world and make a new save.

 

Then, assuming your new save seems to be working well, reinstall Zumbos mod and test with your new save.

I tried fixing savegame bloating, checking for abomb, unloading ZLP => testing hall => 5 day wait+save => reloading ZLP, and downgrading to OBSE v17b. I also tried waiting 14 days in the testing hall since it fit jenrai's description.

 

I truly appreciate everyone's input. Unfortunately, none of those suggestions solved the problem.

It would be a big test to have to perform, but you could keep Zumb's mod on and remove mods any and all other mods systematically until the problem goes away. When you finally found the mod that conflicts with Zumb's mod, you could remove it unless you like it better than Zumb's. you might try removing half your mods and then testing. If still bad, remove half of your remaining mods. Etc. When the problem goes away, install half of the bad batch of mods. Keep removing and installing and keeping very careful records. I am poor at math, but I think you might be able to isolate the conflicting mod in ten play-tests if you are lucky.

I did not delete the savegame that had the problem, so if anyone wants to tackle the problem I am willing to work with him/her. Alternately, you can decide to post your suggestions to this thread and I will gladly run another test. I don't have time to actively search for an answer, but I am willing to respond to direction. Plus, a part of me dislikes the fact that I took the easy way instead of tackling the problem 'til it got out of my way.

 

After adding a few more mods (including the awesome Race Balancing Project) I started my journey once again as a Sea Elf (Capucine's Aquamer). Everything is working perfectly fine (including Zumbs mod).

Just wondering, how many files are in your /Data folder (not including sub-folders)?

 

I've read somewhere that if there are over 300 (?) the game starts acting weird. I'll see if I can find that, while you get back with the number of files :)
