New Oblivion Install

Ok so I finally broke down and decided that I am going to reinstall Oblivion and have another go. I did not want to mess around with the older versions of everything so I went out and bought the GOTY edition but I also understand I will have to patch and do some other little things.

So I have a few questions and I think I may have asked one or two of them before but when I did searches for answers it came back with like 42 pages of stuff. I tried narrowing my questions down but was still unable to find what I wanted. So either I have search fail or I have patience fail for not wanting to sift through 1000 pages of stuffs.

Apologies all around.

Questions:

I remember that Shivering Isles and Nights of the nine had problems running with some mods (this was about a year ago or more) can anyone think of any off the top of their head that I should be wary of that may have issues with those expansions?

Does the sight itself keep track of all your dld's or what you have dld'd? Do any of you have a system for dld'g mods like putting them into folders named after what they are IE Homes, Animals, Magical Items etc...

Do any of you run two instances of the game on your machine one for gaming and one for testing mods out? If so how do you accomplish this?

My thoughts were to go through all of the categories and sort them by most dlds and pick maybe 2 -3 out of each category test them and go with it. Of course this cannot be done in all instances as their are certain specific mods that I would like that I cannot explain what they are yet.

Oh yeah also the best system for loading unloading mods and keeping track of them in game.

And a stat udjuster although I don't know what catagory that would be under?

I think that is it for now... I will post if I can think of any more.

I read about a conflict where Shivering Isles messes up Knights of the Nine, but I think it is sort of rare.

I don't believe the site records your downloads such that you can look at a list.

I organize my archival mods in a somewhat haphazard fashion:

Good Utilities

Good Adventures

Mods I Made

Other People's Mods I Modded for Personal Use

Mods I haven't Played Yet

Seriously Flawed Mods

I write a list on paper of the mods I download with their names and file names (which are often really freaky and don't describe the mod well) and where I must go or what I must do to start playing the mod.

Thanks for the response. And that is good advice I always wrote down the file name but I did not think to write down any specifics about the file and what's needed to accomplish any missions or to point me in the right direction. That little tid bit of info will actually save me a bit of hassle.

I also thought of something else and since you are a modder you will be able to answer this as well. Am I correct in assuming that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time.

I remember when I played before I had a castle fetish. I would download all these castles and run the mod, I would then run into problems where the game would crash or I would have huge question marks all over the place. I can remember also that I could ride a dragon like creature and most of the time it would crash the game.

Are these things fixed or do they still go on? Think it was called Akatashi mounts or something.

Are there huge dragons in Oblivion now? That you can battle or befriend?

I am pretty sure the mod manager I used is probably no longer used and I cannot quite remember the name I know it would help with conflicts if things showed up in red after you ran it there was going to be a conflict.

Anyway thanks in advance.

TheNexus actually does keep track of your downloads for you. On the home page, look to the right, about halfway down.

Look for Downloading/rating history. You will find a list of all files you have downloaded, the date you downloaded and if you rated them what the rating was.

If you click on the file name you will be taken directly to the mod where you can download it again if needed. This is a very helpful, but little used, feature for those who lose their game for some reason. (like me :whistling: )

I recommend setting up a folder outside of the Oblivion folder for downloaded mods to be archived. And each mod gets its own folder in that . It makes it easy to unzip a mod into it's own folder to check on exactly what it puts into the game.

Once you have a lot of mods, then you can create a set of subfolders, as David Brasher recommends. Use whatever criteria works for you.

He has one that I had not considered and really need - Other People's Mods I Modded for Personal Use. I will borrow that idea immediately.

Thanks David :thanks:

Cool I will check out the Downloading/rating history thing, I think not sure but I think I had an account before too bad I cannot remember would be nice to see those files as there were a lot of mods that I liked. Thanks Ben and David I actually have received a lot of useful info in just two posts.

Okies I still have some questions:

1. Are there huge dragons in Oblivion now?

2. That you can battle or befriend?

3. Am I correct in assuming that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time?

4. Do any of you run two instances of the game on your computer at the same time?

5. How did you accomplish this?

6. How do you test mods out as I have heard that some are terrible to remove?

Thanks hope everyone has a great weekend.

Your DL history is only held for 30 days (premium members get longer). I copy/paste mine into a text file monthly and add in links and notes where I see fit. I DL to an archive file on an external HDD, then move them into categories that make them easyest for me to find.

I was thinking of a reinstall too and would like to know what would be the best order to INSTALL new mods. Id think it would be best to start with big overhauls like OOO, MMM, FCOM and Cobl (I have not used any of these yet). OR would it be a good idea to follow the BOSS masterlist as a guide for installing mods?
