Help finding a certain sound in the CS

One of my biggest pet peeves with this game is that you can hear crickets in the mountains at night, during a snowstorm, above the treeline.

I see several cricket sounds in the object window, but I can't tell which one is the one playing in the mountains. (For some reason, I can't hear the sounds in the CS when I click the PLAY button...)

In the weather section, the only thing listed under OblivionMountainFog's sounds are a couple of Thunder and Wind sounds. (I've never heard thunder in the mountains.)

It seems the cricket sounds I see in the Object window aren't ever used. Their Used columns all say 0. Does that mean they aren't ever used in the game at all? In any way?

I've been through a bunch of Cell View window lists and the only sounds they have are ambient sounds that are physically placed into a particular spot in the world. There's nothing about sounds that are universally played, like cricket sounds.

So where in the CS do I go to edit the placement of the cricket sound effects? Surely there's an entry somewhere in there that governs those sounds?

Thanks.

Unless you've got the files extracted/XP-mode running you won't hear a thing in CS.

0 means it isn't actively placed inside the game, that doesn't mean it isn't used.

What you have to do to remove those sounds in a region is to go to World->Regions...

Then search for 'Tamriel', if clicked you'll see all sorts of regions in the list...yeah! You got to search through them, be sure to be known with the 'regions' if you want to get those sounds out of specific regions or at specfic weather. The Sound tab at the end shows the Crickets being used quite often. Click on them and hit delete on your keyboard to delete them.

Thanks for replying.

However, if I delete them like you say, leave that window, and then come back, they're back again.

In the end I just went to the actual sounds themselves in the sound section and edited them to point to a silent .wav file. It seems to have worked, however now the crickets will be silent in other forested regions as well.

I'm testing out whether or not that's even a problem. Certain kinds of forest, like the kind around Bruma and Chorrol, don't actually have crickets. The kind in the West Weald does, and fortunately they use a different cricket sound that isn't a problem.

I'm thinking about releasing this mod. It would be my first "real" mod, but I'm concerned that my method was sloppy and people might not like the crickets being gone in a few, but not all, other forests.

If there's a cleaner way to do it, I'd love to do it that way, but deleting them doesn't seem to work.
