Possible work-around for the memory cap

Allow me to be direct with this...

Here's my logic and understanding so far..

-Skyrim is a 32bit app

-it's limited to 3.14gb of memory

-Skyrim "copies" or "mirrors" the content of the VRAM onto RAM to allow the player to use the (ALT+TAB) function and go back to the game without any problems

My question and hypothesis

If there were to be a way to stop Skyrim from "copying" or "mirroring" the content of VRAM onto RAM, wouldn't that stop TESV.exe from using such high amounts of RAM and therefore it wouldn't reach the 3.14gb limit (and then crash)?

In other words:

Vanilla- game files are loaded onto VRAM -----> game copies files onto RAM ----> player can use ALT+TAB

Ideally (the request) - game files are loaded onto VRAM ------> game doesn't copy files onto RAM ------ > player can't use ALT+TAB

Let me know what you think, and thanks for your time.

I get what you're saying.

But don't you think that such a "fix" would lift the cap on the game's modding potential? I mean, if this were to be done, one could install as many textures as his/her GPU could handle and not have to worry about the amount of RAM the game uses.

I believe that if this were to be done, those with strong enough GPU's would have no problem changing all game textures to 8k or at least 4k.

Hope that clears it up a bit more.

I can't say I completely get what's going on here... but it sounds like you need the CTD and memory patch...

This thing will stop you from pretty much ever blanking out of the game unless it's caused by a mod conflict. I have 250 mods, I think 255 is the max so really this patch works well. I have a fairly low grade system and I run flawlessly without ejects from me going over memory only thanks to this patch. I can't honestly even fathom what on Earth one would have to do to make this NOT work.

There is also a graphics optimization tool here that will help very much in frame performance though has nothing to do with CTD but will help lower system burden regardless. <--- for me this was the game changer in performance
