Missing my "~" thingy

Hello, all.

I'm about to start my moddong of Oblivion in the near future.

However, I've noticed something that bugs the living crap out of me.

 

I am unable to "enter commands" via the use of the "~" button.

The ~ key is unresponsive, and I have some questions about it.

 

1: How do I fix it?

 

2: Will it conflict with getting any mods?

 

3: Will it hamper my in game experience while using a mod?

 

4: Will this conflict with Shivering Isles once I've installed it?

 

5: Will installing SI's fix the issue?

 

I should mention that I once used this same copy of Oblivion on another computer, which did allow me to enter commands by pressing the "~" key.

How to I minimise the game's full screen window?

Many mods don't need to let you use the console unless you've got settings to change or you have to skip stages in a quest for some reason. Basically you can live without a console!

 

It think it's vista related, but anyways..have you tried the Ring of Console yet?

I haven't tried a single mod at all, so no, I've not used Ring of Console.

Well, whenever you do in fact need it, get that ring of console mod to open the console another way.

One last option is if you're playing on an english keyboard, the console is mapped to the ¬ key. It's the one under the esc key and next to the 1 key.
