Fallout 3 FPS dropp

Hahaa! I went monkeying roundabout fort bannister and got the same bloody problem after a few hours!

Okey so first I went towards Fort Bannister from the east, butchered everyone there etc, then went southwards and turned west to Girdershade. after that went south to Dunwich and then north to Smith's Garage. Then a bit north until I reached the radio mast and then east towards Fort Bannister. A little bit west from the radio mast are ruins of a house and there's a scavenger there. when you approach that house from the west there's a white fence with mines about. When I started sneaking closer to the house ruins the lag started. It went away after a bit BUT then came back. Radio was not affected, pipboy menus etc. weren't affected.

What makes this interesting is that I haven't had this thing happen to me in any of my previous games. I've thought about this a bit and I'm getting more and more sure that it's because something is trying to spawn/despawn somewhere improper or something to that effect.

Need to find a person who could poke his nose in GECK about the area surrounding Fort Bannister and look up if there are any scripted events happening in that area (like when you approach a place a scripted fight between hostile parties start etc.) or anything else that might cause slowdowns like that. Also I spotted a super mutant in there a bit away from a house occupied by raiders. I paralyzed the mutant and it fell through the terrain surface inside it and after a few seconds of trying to hit it with my cattle prod extraòrdinaireè the game crashed. So maybe something is spawning but it keeps falling through the terrain?

Hi.

I traveled a bit through the wasteland to see if anything uncovered came up when I fast traveled to Fort Bannister. When i came there the whole game suddenly started to lag like hell. I even had problems with getting the main menu and pit-boy up. It does not matter where I go or look after I have fast traveled, It still lags to the game eventually crashes. Although it my suddenly stop lagging at all for some time and then go back to lagging.

I have read this whole thread and have much the same thing except for my problems are in operation anchorage, after you blow up the 3 guns you go to the new base. After talking with the general you leave the command tent and everything is slow motion. There is so much sound effects, visual effects and so forth I am sure this is the problem. I have a quad core with a geforce 8800 512k. A quick question that will probably solve this.

When running generic fallout you get the video settings where you can say what quality you want, I am using FOMM/FOIP and dont get that anymore, how do I get back so that I can set my video standards to the lowest. If these problems disappear when they are lowest then the video card cant handle it.

Thanks,

Err put the F3 disc in your dvd-tray and let autoplay run the launcher (Or right click the drive on explorer and clicketh autoplay).

I updated the drivers for the card and got alittle better performance but there are still serious lags and eventually the game crashes. I did as you said and lowered the settings to low with little to no affect at all.

Someone put out a how to guide for adding all the special effects which I did in one of the games and had much the same results, random crashes when the video/sound got too heavy. I then installed less intensive mods. I do notice that the chance for lockup increase dramatically outside, it must have to do with the rendering of the sky, weather, sound and so forth. When I go outside at operation anchorage my guy can hardly walk and targeting someone through vats leads to a crash. I guess I will have to skip this DLC. Thanks for the help.

I've played F3 with a dual core and 8800GTS and never had that happen to me. This was with like the old 16x drivers. I guess if you use lots of hi-res textures etc. to make everything look photorealistic then it doesn't surprise me really. But with your setup @ high settings should be playable at all times (Okey maybe some of the Talon vs Mutants vs Enclave vs BOS vs You fights might get a bit laggy).

This game is flippin amazing. Here is what I found when experimenting with settings and mods. I disabled a questionable mod that I had, no affect. I downloaded an optomizer that someone wrote and put on fallout nexus. The graphics got alittle better and the choppy action alittle less but hence after running awhile and approaching the chinese position it crashed.

In this part of operation anchorage you have 3 missions, the first is the fuel dumps, second is listening post, and third is the pulse field. So far all of my problems have centered around going to the fuel dump first, everytime a crash. So what the hell lets go to the listening post first, no a glitch or slowdown or crash. Made it through there and then decided to try the fuel dump again, this time as well no chop, no crash. I am heading into the camp and the game plays as normal just like I am inside.

Did I do anything different, I don't think so. I have noticed lots of randomness in this game, I will have to wait till I get back into the capital wasteland to see if there is any hesitation or chop while running to different areas.
