jryan388
So I decided one day to try Bananasplit's Better Cities Mod. I installed it w/ obmm and it looks awesome. The only problem is, it kills my fps (drops to 20ish in the cities). So then I uninstall QTP3, thinking that is the problem. There is NO DIFFERENCE in fps. Here's my system:win 7 pro 64-bit2gb system ram ddr3-1333athlon II x2 245 @ 3.4ghzHIS radeon 5750 @ 800mhzI was thinking that I should at least get 30ish minimum without Qarl's Texture Pack considering my system. 20 is sort of playable but it is bugging the crap out of me. If i don't look in a direction with a lot of buildings its fine but if i do then it plummets and really takes away from the experience. I understand if it's that my computer just isn't good enough, but I don't understand why with BC installed, QTP3 doesn't even make a difference. Better Cities takes a lot of resources including RAM and GPU. Some systems can run it with just a few fps drops and others can drop 20-30+ What other mods are you running? Also, what resolution are you running Oblivion in? I wouldn\'t recommend much over 1024x768 (but that\'s my opinion...The higher Res is it, the more resources it needs) It all depends on your system and how many mods you have/what types of mods. You have 2-gb ram, which is more than enough to run OB without mods, but once you add-on the mods like Better Cities or Qarl\'s Texture Pack 3, it starts to eat up your ram. EDIT:Windows 7 x64 takes around 900mb to well over 2gb of ram (it depends on how much ram you actually have) I have W7 x64 with 6-gb of ram and it uses 1.2-1.5-gb for windows alone, with no extra things running (ie. winamp, gadgets, etc) (As I sit right now, I have winamp, firefox (with 10 tabs open) TES CS and 8 gadgets and a Chii from Chobits window sitter, and I\'m using 2.0-gb of ram)END EDIT Try running Game Booster (Link: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html ) I use Game Booster and its wonderful, Plus its FREE. Try using that, and see how it goes. Good Luck and Happy Gaming EDIT: but I don\'t understand why with BC installed, QTP3 doesn\'t even make a difference. Most likely is because Better Cities add much more than what QTP3 actually does. Yes QTP is a major re-texture, but Better Cities add much much more to all the cities. You not the only one who has fps drops in the cities. So don\'t think its only you. It wouldn\'t hurt to try to get another 2-gb in ram if you are able to afford it, or are able to. jryan388
I just tried running it at 1024 x 768, NO DIFFERENCE if fps! Then I even lowered it to 640 x 480, yes thats right! 640 x 480 and NO DIFFERENCE in fps! I checked and with oblivion running only about 75% of my ram is used. I uninstall qarl's, all other patches, set textures to low, disable sound, and I'm still only getting 18fps at times! So it can't be my video card. Could I need to fix something in the .ini file? Am I hopelessly doomed?

Then I even lowered it to 640 x 480, yes thats right! 640 x 480 and NO DIFFERENCE in fps! it must be my ram, right? Possibly. but before you go getting more ram try this. Its helped me before. Go to... My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ make a back up of your Oblivion.ini (just copy it to the desktop) Then delete the Oblivion.ini in the Oblivion games folder Run the Oblivion Launcher, and let it rebuild your .ini file Then try it again. If that doesn't work or make it any better, I would look in trying to get more ram, another 2-gb would do OB a nice thing I think ------I once had both BC and QTP3 (along with full FCOM and another 130+ mods) and I dropped from ~35-40fps to ~8-10fps (If I remember) (I soon uninstalled both BC and QTP3my system specs...Intel Q6600 2.4ghz Quad-2-core2-gb 1066 mhz ramdual Xfx 9800 GTX+ in SLI (512mb each)graphics at high with 1024x768 in oblivion-----my current system (At the moment, I'm not using any mods, trying to finish my own mod and don't want anything to interfere with it. I have played around in Vanilla OB a little and I am seeing constant ~60-70fps (argh once I get those two other video cards and the other 18-gb ram, I will be flying)Intel i7 920 2.66 Overclocked to 3.4Ghz6-gb 1600Mhz ramevga 260 superclocked graphicsgraphics at ultra-high with 1024x768 in oblivion ---- Also I forgot to mention, when I run GameBooster, I disable all Anti-virus, spy-ware programs, I also unplug from the net, so nothing can happen while I play OB I hope this helps you :)
jryan388
I just did a comparison w/ no mods and w/only bc and fps went from 48 to 18. Is that normal? Can I do anything besides buying hardware to help it?

Can I do anything besides buying hardware to help it? So with no mods you had 48 fps? and with bc you had 18? You have to remember how much BC changes graphic wise, it adds lots of new houses in probably every city, and much more. no matter what hardware you have you will lose fps with BC period. In your case, with only 2-gb of ram its going to be more than others. If I were you, I would head to the Better Cities Official Thread HERE and check what they say, and ask there. You might get a much better answer than what I can give you.
Idhreniel
First time posting, sorry if this isn't in the right thread. I've installed better cities, but there doesn't appear to be any change (cities stay as they were originally). Previously I had this mod working but I had to reinstall. I've tried adding the latest patch (official), but it just crashes to desktop when I load saves. Do I need the unofficial patch? I used OBMM when installing. nisen
hey ive got better cities on a weaker laptop card than your using (but with 4GB ram) and have alotof mixed results with fps depending on which city and whats looked at. Also before installed Oblivion stutter remover and Streamline 3.1, my fps allways swung from 10 to 60 fps inside the cities, so when you now only get 20 fps, is that fairly constant which ever one your at. And with DSoS advice to use game booster (im still not sure it helps mine) the company that makes it also has the Advanced System Care program (from which you can download Game booster) that comes with an excellent ram cleaner app worth running before a new game

Should should notice that "most" cities have changed... If you go to the Imperial City Market district, that seems to be the most noticeably changed. Make sure that you have all the correct plugins installed. Aswell as any texture packs that come with it. Use BOSS to help set your load order. If that doesn't work. You may want to uninstall it and try to reinstall it using OBMM with a OMOD script. It'll step you through the process with mainly "Yes" or "No" questions, and IIRC it will ask you if you want to keep separate city plugin files, do NOT keep them separate (merge them into a single plugin.) And if that doesn't work, you may want to ask this in the Official BC thread. (I'm not sure what the link is, I'm at work without my laptop, with all my bookmarks) Please note that this is kind of a Necro thread. It was opened almost a year ago. But doesn't hurt to bring it back I suppose.
