Harushimo
While I'm aware there's a good chance this has already been asked, finding things in these Forums isn't really the easiest, so I'll ask and hopefully get pointed in the right direction: I'm trying to learn to make Custom Special Effects for Oblivion, similar to the effects made in Midas Magic Spells of Aurum. The creator of that mod isn't the easiest to get ahold of. I've tried. I know how to use MagicEffects and MagicEffectShaders, I'm good with Blender, know how to animate in Blender, Good with Photoshop, and know the basic ins and outs of custom object creation. What I don't know is Havok, particle systems, or what all I have to do to -make- my own effects and make them animate on objects, not just cast from spells. I know how to make objects -cast- spells and PlayMagicEffect, etc., but not how to... say, make the Myst Ground Effect, or the sparlies in the Shivering Isles. If anyone can point me in the right direction, preferably a little bit more specifically than the CSWiki, it would be much appreciated, and The Dragon Paths will be far better thanks to your help. ^._.^ I'll be sure to give credit to whoever can do so for helping me make the mod that much more awesome. Moonkitty
yeah - excellent question dude - i was just wondering that too.i'm new to modding, so i don't know all of the things you talked about - but if you figure out how, would it be possible to post a video link to youtube? that'd be awesome :)
Vagrant0
Lots and LOTS of complicated scripting, and even more knowing about how to setup and use virtually every aspect of the Construction Set. It's not one of those things you learn how to do, but instead one of those things you eventually realize that you can do after many hours spent making lots of other stuff. That's what I've done so far, and it taught me how to make activators and how to script. :P More than likely though, it's going to require a lot of steps in several different programs. Making the textures for the effects, particle systems, special meshes.. It'll take some doing, but if Zilverbullet could do it, why can't I, right? blakemay
umm yea scripting but there could be one way a little bit easy simple but effetive find all the scripting meshes and textures uses in a basic fire ball shouldent be hard and just mess with the textures of that could be a start im not sure tho i dont really mod new magic spells
Harushimo
Hey, no problem! ^._.^ I'm fairly good at scripting as it is, I know my way around the CS really well, and I've gotten the hang of working with Nifs. But if it is just scripting then at least that's a good place to start. I think I should have made the question a bit more specific though.. As far as making spells that have custom effects, I'll get to that after. What I really want to know how to do right now is just making a visual effect like the GroundMystEffect, the LightBeam, or the animated effects like around a Great Welkynd Stone, or a waterfall. If they're all just animated textures thrown on a mesh like a flame is, then the only thing I'm missing is which constraint to apply to them so they appear 3D. I tried just adding a collisions mesh to the GroundMystEffect and ended up somehow messing up the whole thing. The fog no longer spread out and just didn't look like fog any more. If I can learn to make those effect, then adding those effects to a custom spell will just require several hours of me studying and playing with spell scripts, and I'm fairly certain I'm capable of that, even if I have to run through every spell in Midas Magic and compare them. Whether someone can tell me how to do it, or even just what to start looking at, it doesn't matter. I'll figure it out eventually one way or another. It's just much easier and faster with a nudge in the right direction. But thanks so far anyway. ^._.^ If there's no special trick or unique mesh or hidden flag in Nifskope I'm missing, and it's all scripting, then I'll be able to figure it out from that.
