LoneRebel85
I'm sort of new to modding and honestly FO3 is the only game I've ever really wanted to mod--not that vanilla is bad but I see a lot of awesome mods for this game. Anyways, I pretty much figured out how to do the plug-in type mods and use FOMM. I even have the G.E.C.K. though I haven't played with it enough to know how it works. Anyways, I'm a little lost on how to use mods that replace the default content. I added a new crosshair and edited the Fallout.ini and it works great! However, I just got a mod to alter the scope reticules and I can't figure it out. I read the readme and it said to just install the files into the install folder which I did: Fallout 3/Data/Meshes/Interface/hud/(scope mod) is what I have. But it doesn't change the vanilla. I also renamed the file to "Scope01.nif" which is said in the readme. Do I need to edit something else in the INI so the game knows to use this new file? If that's the case then I just need to know which line to edit. Otherwise, any other pointers will do just fine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or even pointing me into the direction of a solution!
TheVampireDante
Have you tried running this: ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated and seeing if it makes a difference? The Archive invalidation file sometimes interrupts the game picking up on new content\replacers added by mods. The item in that link prevents that by diverting it to a 'dummy' target, allowing the changes to appear. Easy to use and regarded as a basic 'must have' by many. Hope it helps. LoneRebel85
Yes. I ran that and "Activated" it. There is still no change. If it will help, here is the mod I'm trying to install: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9265
pkleiss
In order for that mod to work, all the files need to be in \Data\meshes\Interface\Hud and only one of them needs to renamed to Scope01.nif. The game only has the one scope, so by doing this you would be repalcing the original with one and only one new model at a time. If you are sure that the \HUD folder has only one file called scope01.nif, then perhaps the new one just looks too similar to the original one. By default, the game will look in the folder strucure before it looks into the BSAs for the file. So placing a scope01.nif into the \HUD folder would definitely override the file in the BSA. The only other possible reason that I can think of would be that somehow the game does not have rights in the \HUD folder. If you have Vista or Windows 7, and you instaled fallout3 to the default folder in Program Files, I would try running the game as Administrator or uninstalling the game and reinstalling it to C:\Games\Fallout3 to avoid any UAC issues you might have. LoneRebel85
Strangely enough the mod started working. It was in the right folder and I had given up on trying to make it work but I loaded my game last night, pulled out the Reservist rifle and there it was--the new "scope"! I am using Windows 7 with the game in Program Files so I am just blaming the annoying Windows for the delayed reaction.
