D2D and OBSE

Sorry to post this in another forum, but I can't seem to get a response in Mod troubleshooting. I am having tons of trouble with Oblivion. I have it on Xbox but I didn't like the scaling of enemies; so I just purchased it on D2D. It seems when I run OOO I have a crash every time I exit the game. I am only using OOO, no others; so I know this is it. I also have all the GOTY addons, which come with the D2D version. I can't run OBSE for any of the exit mods because there are encrypted files from the D2D version and OBSE won't run. I would just deal with it except when it crashes on Windows 7 it is quite a hassle, I can't shut the program down with task manager so I have to ctrl-alt-del and do a restart. Anyone have any ideas of what I should do? Whats strange is to get this crash all I have to do is turn the game on and exit; I don't need to load any files all I have to do is go to the main screen. Are there other mods like OOO? All I really care about is scaling; I would rather have an experience like Morrowind or Might and Magic; If thats possible.

Posting links to cracks and other things that violated the EULA of the game, i.e. breaking the encryption of the exe is not allowed on this family of sites.

Also thought I'd chime in here. Although a crack may be used for this purpose, it is not suggested as these things often come from illegal sites and are packaged with dubious intent. In addition to breaking the user agreement, and probably causing problems with how D2D internals function, applying a crack may also lead to even more problems with the game, which at this point probably isn't a good idea. Search for this at your own risk, OBSE mods frankly aren't worth it.

I don't know if it's a Windows 7 issue or not with the crash on exit, but I have over 200 mods now that I've installed FCOM and I still never crash on exit. I've never had to use any of the Crash Fix mods. (FCOM is a combination of the major overhauls).

 

I do know that there is a problem using the EXE Installer version of OOO with Vista and this probably applies to Win 7 as well.

 

Are you using the latest release of OOO including the 134 Beta 5 Patch? Don't worry about the Beta part. It just means the mod is continually in a state of update and improvement. It's the main mod that will gets rid of level scaling altogether, but there are others that will give you a better experience than vanilla leveling.

There are a couple of smaller ones that I can't remember the name of and at least one requires OBSE.

 

You might want to read through the OOO thread on the Official forums. There may be some info that would help with the crashes. As I said it never happens to me so I don't really know what to advise to help. There is info about the Vista and the OOO exe version here as well.

I know with Vista you can run the game in WindowsXP mode, but someone told me you can't do this in Window 7 so whether this is correct I can't say.

I have, yes. But it didn't do enough on it's own for me, even with the huge resource pack of creatures and items. It's too close to vanilla, but that's my opinion. As far as I'm aware it hasn't been updated in a long time unlike OOO which is always active on the Official forums.

 

I prefer the added element of unique enemies and the special loot they guard among many other things. OOO is more a total overhaul and changes many things, for the better, but some people find it too much. It depends a bit on your style of game play I suppose. It takes away the player centric aspect of the game and is one of the reasons I continue to play Oblivion after all this time.
