hughythomas
As per title - is there a mod out for oblivion that just generates loads of extra NPCs - just purely for a sense of immersion in the towns? I have recnelty upgraded my computer (and mods) and I was wondering now that I have the extra horsepower - if there was some sort of mod that addressed the apparent lack of density of NPCS in towns? Appreciate any info on this! Cheers
WoogieMonster
There is a mod called Crowded Cities that does this. The people don't have names, they are named for the guild they are connected to, such as farmer, traveler, mage, fighter, etc. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6665
o0Vox
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View...livionmods.list Search: extended "city" For city type in like chorrol, imperial city, etc.
JCP768
Personally I think quality has more to do with immersion than quantity. I mean: 1: NPCs cause lag, this has very little to do with hardware. 10-20 NPCs on screen with ai's running and everything. it will most likely cause lag possibly even ai overload so that certain NPCs will go brain dead. 2: Pretty much every mod I've seen that adds NPCs to towns and that being the sole purpose of the mod... The NPCs have no lines.... So as mentionedabove they appear brain dead and nothing more than a prop, like a table. 3: Bad schedules, or cookie cutter schedules. One has the NPC waking up, wandering around where they woke up, maybe standing around a bar at night and then going to bed. The other has multiple NPCs who have pretty much the exact same schedule. Hopefully something will come of this, and as I stated in the topic the NPCs in the quest mod Integration had personality and good schedules. Of course it only adds about 2-5 per town... possibly an expansion on that idea later(ie: more NPCs added to the towns with personality and schedules)
Balakirev
hughythomas wants this, and it's his thread. Personally, I understand where he's coming from. Nothing breaks immersion like a large city with plenty of shops, and one or two people on the wide boulevards. Vanilla Oblivion cities feel like ghost towns. I used a combination of Crowded Cities, moDem's City Life, and the Extended series. Yes, they do slow things down, but I'm still getting about 20 FPS in IC, the worst of the lot, which isn't terrible. I might drop Extended IC, but between the three it's certainly possible to configure a pretty busy town.
myrmaad
Perhaps the original poster was unaware of the consequences of using some of these mods. I added Fighters Gild Contracts and Tamriel Travelers and a few other quests and my towns are very busy. Look around for quest mods that add NPCs and get high marks, if you prefer your NPCs to have a purposeful life. :D It's more fun to see them traveling around then standing around like posts. You have a point. :) Mass AI helps out, though, without any loss to FPS. It ratchets up the AI allowance, and I haven't seen too many instances of groups standing around with nothing to do in towns. What I do occasionally find is an obvious spawn point where NPCs are clustered when I enter, though they quickly move off in all directions; and that doesn't happen most of the time.
