Pushkatu
From Wiki: For PC users there are two distinct versions of this patch: one is specifically for users who have installed Shivering Isles and the other is for users who have not installed Shivering Isles (both versions are available for all localized versions of Oblivion/SI). The FormID bug that is fixed by this patch affects all versions of Oblivion (even if Shivering Isles has not been installed) and therefore should be installed by all players. Bethesda's Shivering Isles FAQ provides additional information about SI-related issues. On the PC, if you get an error message about "Old file not found", first check that you downloaded the correct version of the patch (Shivering Isles and vanilla Oblivion have two different patches) or the correct English patch version. European and Australian discs have a different patch than North America game disc. The other reason for this error message is that you previously installed one of the Shivering Isles beta patches. Any PC users who installed the first Shivering Isles beta patch (version 1.2.0410) need to uninstall and reinstall Oblivion in order to install the final version of this patch. This problem also occurs if you are using the Direct2Drive version of Shivering Isles as the current patch is not compatible with it. PC users who installed the second beta patch (Version 1.2.0416) do not actually need to install the final patch, because other than the download file name it is identical to the beta patch. bben46
For some reason in the GOTY Bethesda put the 1.2.0416 Oblivion patch in the Shivering Isles install. They combined the Oblivion & SI patches there. So to get the patch, you MUST install the Shivering Isles. There is no real reason not to install it, as it does not change the main quest, or anything in the vanilla Oblivion game. Everything in Shivering Isles except the gate part takes place in a new worldspace, and the SI quests are not triggered until you go through the gate. As long as you do not actually enter the SI gate, you will be playing vanilla Oblivion. You will get a message that a mysterious gate has opened, but that is all. Oh, and you will be able to use mods that require SI.
SN1P1NGW0LF
I have been having the same problem as him, I am trying to install OBSE so I can use particular mods, I have all my DLC's installed, especially the ones that come on the Knights of the Nine disc, I need someone to make a video on this so that I can get help because I have no idea how to install patches and until I find out I am not going to be able to use the best of mods for Oblivion (Except for Apachii, that doesn't require it). Message me when one is put up or to simply just give me a step by step vista message on how to do it.
bben46
The Patches From the Beth site are self installing - just run them. As for using patches from some other source - I don't recommend it as you really don't know what you are actually getting. The patches on the Nexus - such as the unofficial patches are not really true patches, but just mods - and they install like any other mod.
