Editted textures turning black

Hi.

 

Have had trouble with retextures recently.

 

Have decided to make my own castle with custom colour rugs, throne etc. but the textures i have used [editted copies of vanilla textures with different names] appear black in game and now in the construction set [they appeared fully coloured in the construction set before i went in game and found them black].

 

Some help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you forgot to include a normal map. Happened to me a lot when I first started.

 

As you're just doing a retexture you don't need to make a new one, use the ones that are already

there. So, if the texture file you extracted was called 'rug.dds' you want the 'rug_n.dds' file.

 

Normal maps tell the game how an item responds to light, it shows up black

because without a guide the game doesn't know how to apply the light to it.

yep that's defenetly a missing normal map problem.

That is not acctualy a good thing to do. Making new normals is the best way to go.
