avignale2
Hi, obviously changing ugridstoload to anything higher than 5 causes issues but looks so much better, i love being able to see every single house and ruin from anywhere else. but the game crashes frequently when this happens. Right now i have all the lod texture mods installed and the textures look nice but what would be great is would be the ability to see the lod versions of all the house and ruins from anywhere else. I know lo versions of the models exist because when the real structures pop into view they very quickly then turn from the lod versions into the full detail, so i wonder why they bothered making lod version of all these structures if the lod models are only used in the 10 feet between the model appearing and the full detail model. or perhaps is there a way to fix all the issues with ugridstoload? i know it is possible what i ask because everything is fine in fallout 3, i can see all the building from a massive distance a way and dont have to be within the ugridstoload radius like in oblivion. Models and .esphttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20053 How the _far.nifs are registered to the worldspacehttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15781 Keep in mind that if you're having stability issues, adding more detail will almost certainly make it worse. You might be able to manage by keeping your grids to load at 5, and going to a slightly smaller LOD image size, but you will still probably have some performance issues. avignale2
thanks, what I can't understand is why they can do all that really nicely in fallout 3 with great performance but not in oblivion? they probably could patch oblivion to help keep it beautiful, I mean its such a great game with so much effort and hard work poured into it. It looks like everybody worked so hard on it, the voice acting, the music, the massive world, the creative quests and writing, would it be so hard for the devs to just patch or do whatever they need to so that oblivion has the same type of lod type deal as fallout 3? if I ever have kids i'm going to have them play oblivion, i don't want them to be playing oblivion and whinging because the forts and bridges all pop into existence 100 metres in front. XJDHDR
The reason is that Oblivion is restrained by the hardware that is available. Basically, Oblivion doesn't use multi-core CPUs very well (unfortunately, the current trend for CPU manufacturers is to add more and more cores onto their CPUs while making each core faster is secondary), Oblivion doesn't use more than 2GB of RAM unless it is patched to do so and it also doesn't do SLI or Crossfire very well (fortunately, Nvidia and ATI focus on improving the speed of their GPU rather than adding more cores). On the other hand, FO3 supports 2 cores perfectly well, hence the reason it has great performance. As for your instability problems, you may want to check out my website in my signature. Of particular interest may be the the page "Read Tweakguide.com's Oblivion tweak guide" since I think that that website mentions the exact problem that you are describing. Otherwise, we also have a modder, Sky Ranger, who is creating an OBSE plugin which will improve performance and stability and might be able to give Oblivion some extra multi-core support. It is called Oblivion Stutter Remover and there is a link to that as well in my signature. Anyway, i hope this helps you.
