Modders of TES: when is it time to take the next step?

I have no intention of stealing anything from anyone I am quite capable of making anything I want. yes there is alot more to creating a program then just an engine. my intentions are to explore the possibilitys and maybe gain some interest in the idea. there are lots of open resources to draw from and learn from and if something good comes from all of it then why should you have a problem with that. everything that is stored here came from an Idea that someone else had long before oblivion came along. I believe the womans body existed long before the Hgec came along. and I'm pretty sure that if we took a look in your mod we would find things that existed long before you did. who knows you might even have textures that came from open sources. anyway I won't be releasing anything that belongs to someone else without their permission. OK ?

Although you may not have that intention, the fact of the matter is that you already are. The HGEC body does not cover usage for other games, and it is rigged specifically for the skeleton used in Oblivion. Even though you may at some point plan on replacing these "borrowed" aspects with your own work or resources which are covered under an open source license, their mere usage combined with your impressions that everything is fair game so long as you don't release it is deeply troubling. Despite claiming that you are capable of making this sort of stuff, you seem to entirely disrespect the work of others. This is my primary contention, you clearly have some problems understanding what is covered under intellectual property and what is not.

I suggest you calm down and do a little bit of research to save both of us the trouble of getting into that argument.

Going back to the OP, I haven't seen anything to suggest that Bethesda is suddenly going to become less friendly to the modding community (leaving aside issues of various things they could've done to be more helpful!). Admittedly I'm a little out of the loop on that front, but certainly FO3 was just as moddable as Oblivion or Morrowind, for example.

That's not to say that the modding community may not be as well catered for in coming years, but even if that does come to pass, if there's anything I've learnt over the years it's not to assume "we'll never see those days again". I first thought that about the computing community when I was at college (in the 1980s!) and I'm glad to have been proven wrong several times over.
