FreeSquall
My friend and I recently came up with a plan to make a quest corresponding with the wardens keep side-quest to find star metal in order to make the star fang. Our thoughts were to not only give a quest providing a generous supply of star metal but to also add new items to be made from it. For example we intend to not only make new weapons with it but to add new sets of armor with more unique looks than we've seen so far. Some of the ideas we've had are a new suit of armor of each type that are pieced together from different sets in the game. Included in this mod hopefully will be the inclusion of the helmet and longsword of Malcolm the Grey Warden from 'The Calling' and 'The Sacred Ashes' trailers. As of now we are still in the planning of our project, I am sketching out concepts for the items, and my friend is familiarizing himself more with the tool set. There is no clear due date has been made as of yet but we hope to have a lot of progress within the coming months. Please note the this will be the first mod of any kind coming from myself and my friend so any help will be GREATLY appreciated. *UPDATE* So far I have sketched out: The Great Sword, The Grey Warden Sword (sacred Ashes/ Wardens Calling), The Dagger, The Mace, and The First Set of Massive Armor. rebalious
Sounds interesting, good luck with it. The fact that its tied to an official DLC might put some people off however. Do you have any names for the new equipment yet?
FreeSquall
Well at the moment I'm actually Sketching one of them right now and it is called The Final Calling, it is to be the Star Metal version of the Warden's sword from the Trailers. Though I do hope people aren't put off by the connection as I'm really only connecting them loosely. the only connection is that the character who forged Starfang will be the one with the rumor and the one to help forge the new gear after getting the ore. w00teh
Thing is if you want to use starmetal you'll need to rip out the DLC content and that waould be illegal to redistribute... i've managed that and the stats for all items with starmetal as the material work perfectly fine, thing is you can probably manage to do it, but released it would be an issue. There's even a Starmetal tint for armor
rebalious
Perhaps, I don't know much about DA modding but surely he can just link/reference the textures and whatever without needing to rip them completely? After all, all the god items here don't exactly rip the models from the vanilla game. Scratch that the Winter Forge is a better example, fairly certain it doesn't rip models/effects/textures/overrides at all. Just references them. FreeSquall
While you bring a very valid point, I may have an alternative way of doing it. Seeing that the Star metal ore has no render or image it should simply be a matter of scripting a like-named item to a blacksmith to make the options to forge the items. Doing things this way will be tedious I don't think it will be the most difficult part of the task. My biggest problem will probably come from having to render the new items such as the warden's sword and the new sets of armor. The sword is not an already in game item and the armors are made up of several in-game pieces of armor.
