Help in dialogued quest

Greetings.

I am trying to make a dialogued quest for my next mod "The Magic Realm of Araenya- Episode 2". All my quests are adventure quests with no dialogue--- this time I´m trying do do something different, but the bugs and the lack of experience are causing me a lot of heartache, and I am almost giving up the idea.

I am using Povuholo's quest tutorial to learn it (I already know how to make quests, but not dialogued ones), but there are some things that are not well-explained and I just cannot make my dialogue with NPC work. here we go:

1- I created 4 new topics to be used as greetings (named: AAgreeting1, AAgreeting2, AAgreeting3 and AAgreeting 4, to be said when getstage <10, =10, =15 and =20, respectively). But unless I delete ALL default generic greetings (Hello, etc.) from the NPC´s topic list, my NPC just does not say the AAgreeting1 (something like "Hi, could you help me with a problem???") when I talk to him. Is that right ??? Do I have to delete ALL generic greeting topics to make my NPC talk the greeting, or am I missing something??

2- When I deleted the generic greetings from this npc´s list, many other NPC´s were affected by the "I HAVE NO GREETING" bug, that happens suddenly after some times testing it. ONCE AGAIN: is it something I am doing wrong??

3- Is there any other tutorial I could rely on??

You need to set the priority of the quest higher than the other dialogues for greetings or that topic. A value of about 40 should work.

Mine is over 70 and still does not work.

My NPCs have already AI packages--- they roam, talk to each other, sleep and tell you the rumors when you talk to them--- but they NEVER say the new topics I´ve added.

Just figured out I cannot remove greetings from them without deleting the topics. I there is a way to do so, I would be pleased to know.

I structure my quests with dialog differently than you. I never delete GREETINGs. I just add my own custom GREETING dialog infos to characters or faction members. This is done in Quest>Topic. NOT in Quest>Conversation.

I suggest that you try it my way. As long as your quest has a high priority, the NPCs are likely to use your custom dialog instead of the vanilla greetings. For many functions, it is good to add new topics so that once triggered, you no longer have to rely on GREETING for your dialog. You can instead ask NPCs about topics such as "Help" or "Problem."

Tutorials can provide good information, but they can also lead you astray. I like reverse engineering. Make a copy of a mod with dialog that you know functions. Start messing with it and changing what is said and when. Learn how this functional mod works, and then make your own mod the same way. The tutorials will probably make you build from the ground up and can't help when you hit a snag they don't cover.

I have faith in you. You can learn to do quests with dialogue.
