OK, I'm a noob...

First of all thanks for a great site and a helpful forum that has a ton of information available. But, frankly, wading through the pages upon pages of posts has left me with nothing more than bleeding eyesockets and more unanswered questions.

A little bit about me:

I just (well, maybe a month ago) purchased TES IV: Oblivion GOTY. I played Morrowind on my Xbox console and fell in love with it. I think that Oblivion will be able to capture the same kind of attention from me. However, here is my issue...

At the suggestion of a friend and fellow MMO gamer, I became interested in the OOO mod for the game, but am having problems getting it installed. I do have the DLC content as well. My questions are these...

1) How do I get the "OOO 1.3 Base exe" installed?

-I have dl'ed the "OBMM", dl'ed the "OOO 1.3 Base exe", dl'ed the "OOO 1.3.2 Final Update" and the "OOO 1.3.3 Patch".

-I read all 'Readme' files associated with the downloads of said mods and their installation, it only confused me more, I think.

-I have successfully managed to install the DLC without issue (pretty easy just double click and install to "Oblivion/Data"), but it 'wizards' the extraction

process.

-I have managed to create the OMOD's (?) with the "OBMM" for both the "OOO 1.3.2 Final Update" and the "OOO 1.3.3 Patch", but they will not install

or 'patch' correctly due to the root program "OOO" is 'missing'.

-I tried copying the files that become extracted from the exe from a 'temporary' folder over to the the "Oblivion/Data", but this does not seem to work.

-I know I am more than likely just doing something wrong here.

2) What am I forgetting or overlooking?

Sorry to be such a noob, but modding is not my strong point, at least not yet. Thanks for any constructive input in advance.

I have not used OOO before, but I might be able to help...

Main EXE - It sounds like "Main OOO exe" is its' own program. Try running the .exe from its' current location. Sometimes the program might need to be in a specific place or in the same place as a specific file (in this case it's usually the Oblivion.EXE file). Move the installer EXE to your Oblivion folder (not Oblivion/Data) and run it from there.

Temporary folders will sometimes expire or be deleted automatically for memory on the HD (Do realize the folder is called 'temp' for that reason). Windows will update those folder views when it happens, but other programs (i.e. WinRAR) are slower on the uptake, this makes you think the file is still there when it is not. To solve this, simply save your packages to a common location (for example, the desktop) and delete them when you are sure they are no longer needed.

OMOD's - Are there any files with the .omod extension in the package? You can just double-click those to install them into OBMM. Or, you can create an OMOD from a ZIP, however the ZIP must contain a folder called "omod conversion data" with the right file inside, for this to work. Some call this an "OMOD-Ready Zip".

I hope this helps =)

If you're using Vista there can be issues with the exe installer. It's better to use the OMOD or manual install option. OMOD is the best choice as it makes it easy to uninstall if necessary, where the manual files require a lot of time and effort to remove if you decide you don't like the mod.

You don't need either of these files...OOO 1.3.2 Final Update" and the "OOO 1.3.3 Patch.

Go here to the Official OOO forum thread to see which files you need and how to install.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.ph...owtopic=1069109

You only need the 1.33 Complete OMOD ready file or the exe installer. The patch is included in the complete package.

Since you already know how to create an OMOD the process is easy for OOO because it has all the scripts and conversion data all done for you. It will take some time to create though, so if OBMM seems to be unresponsive while it's working be patient and don't try to stop the process. OOO is huge and it will need some time to compress the files.

Great advice folks, I appreciate the replies - even though apparently in the wrong forum topic. :wallbash:

Anyways, I finally got it all working correctly and am playing with my mods installed. YAY!

:thanks:

I put together a little guide to see how I FINALLY got it all to work - I will post it in the 'mod troubleshooting' section. Hopefully it wil be useful to those that may need it in the future. :whistling:
