XTR3M368
This might have been answered elsewhere but I can't find it. This thread addresses MIA modders or modders that have just quit due to whatever real life factors. What is the protocol about using their mods or parts of their mods as part of a mod that you are working on? I have 2 that are basically ready to release but am waiting for permissions from modders that won't respond. Since they won't respond, what is the etiquette involved in using their stuff? Am I just out of luck and can't release the mod or at least can't release it with the part I can't get responses on? .....or with MIA authors, is using the MIA's work and fully giving credit to their work on the download page acceptable? This is of course just making it available on the Nexus and free to download. I don't use any other Oblivion modding website. I have always found it a shame that some authors put "no use without permission" type legals on their mods then go MIA. I can accept a "No you can't use it" response, but not responding at all seems wrong to me. There are some authors that have put a "I am no longer <whatever> and this is the deal about my mod". At least that kind of thing gives closure. I guess what I would love to see is a policy governing MIA authors that states "Others can use parts of your mod with proper recognition in the credits as long as they do not charge for your content if you go MIA or are unwilling to support them due to <insert whatever reason here>.".....or something similar. Could one of the moderators maybe shed some light on this?
Vagrant0
If they aren't able to respond, it's best that you just refrain from using or altering any of their resources. Period. Although they may not be around to voice their objections to that content being used, their rights to retain ownership of their content and decide who can use it should be honored. jaysus
25yrs after public release they should however enter GPL status... not that it would matter i assume lol...
XTR3M368
If they aren't able to respond, it's best that you just refrain from using or altering any of their resources.I was afraid of that.....I was just hoping there was some policy somewhere that.....well I guess that doesn't matter. I now have to decide if I want to release these as an incomplete mod and recommend that the downloader use the MIA's mod in conjunction with it...or to just say screw it, just use it on my own PC, and not release it at all. I don't like incomplete things.
jaysus
you can always try to look for alternatives, or make the assets you need yourself, what others did you can do too! ...with some effort of course :P
