HOWSE
I was in Megaton and Billy Creel had the missing mesh square/rectangle, so I used SCC to look into his inventory. He was carrying a scoped .44 magnum, I took the .44 and he no longer had the missing mesh. When I armed the .44 the mesh was not missing, does anyone have any idea what could cause this odd occurrence?
mechine
It's the wrong question. You should be asking why did it work for the player. It doesn't matter though. When you find a big red blucko ! missing mesh error in-game 1. find out what it is 2. load up your whole load order with FO3edit In your case we know it's the vanilla Scoped .44 mag So the easy way to find it would be to look in Fallout.esm under Weapons, which if you click the name or form id tab at the top of the list it will either show everything in there in A-Z by the Form ID or the game name, in accending or decending, I guess you could just look down thru all that, but it's much more easy to just put it in A-Z on the In Game name rather than the Form ID which is the default order. Then you can find the entry for the Scoped .44 mag, from looking in Fallout.esm all mods which change this form ID for the Scoped .44 mag pistol, will be displayed when you click on that entry. From left to right the entry gets overwriten, so the entry at the far right is the one that fallout is using. While you can't change any thing inside the Fallout.esm, you can change all the plug in's listed left to right while viewing inside the Fallout.esm, an the same for any other mod. Most times the mesh isn't missing, it's just miss spelled somewhere along the line, maybe it's just Scoped44Mag an it needs to match the others, scoped44mag, yeah it looks at caps, it has to match the others, or match the mesh which is installed. Maybe the vanilla mesh is named Scoped44Mag, well maybe one of the mods installed a mesh to replace it which is named 44mag, instant error, to fix you would go inside the data folder find the mesh an note the name, then change it inside the entry or entries from left to right so that they all match an are correct. FO3edit you would right click the name, then edit it, wait 3 seconds, then yes, edit, spell it right, which from here all you would have to do is drag an drop that part of the entry from left to right if there are more than a few, you can also copy paste if it suits you.
