You guys! You guys... Help please (Pinnacle Game Profiler)

I don't know if I'm just stupid (I know I'm not too great with computers, but I don't usually have this hard of a time), or what, but I just can't figure this thing out.

I would really like to give Project Nevada a try, but I can't play with a keyboard and mouse (I have issues with hand spasms). I managed to fritter my way along in getting a profile for Pinnacle Game Profiler set up for New Vegas 4GB, but have run into some problems that I just can't find any info on.

So, I got my profile created, mapped out my controller; now comes the part I can't figure out. I know I need to map some of the buttons on my controller to my keyboard, but just can't seem to get it down.

I used the "edit hotkeys" tool to add ctrl and shift to my possible buttons. Now I don't know what to do. Do I undo the assignment of the button and leave it blank (and will that make it free to map to one of the things in PNV?) and assign the hotkey to the controller button?

Or am I just misunderstanding how this whole thing works? I have the feeling that I am. Am I supposed to map the controller to the keyboard instead of the x-box map, and turn off controller in the game, or what?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I have no idea who else might be able to help me out but you guys, you do this game changing stuff like professionals.

I am assuming you have a PC gamepad (rather than an XBox controller, for which FNV PC has native support for). In that case, the best utility is actually a controller emulator like 'x360ce' (free). It will require no key mapping and allow you to emulate the functionality of an XBox controller while using a PC gamepad, including vibration and the pressure sensitive analogue stick for walking. This is what I used for all the Bethesda games until I got a used XBox controller.

Sorry, I should have been specific. I am using an x-box controller.

Bit of an update: I did find a map that seems to work, mostly. The only issue I am having now is that for menus, I still get the mouse (my mouse is up high, which is part of why the spasms are an issue for me playing without a controller). There is an option to use the "mouse spring", but that isn't really what I want, I just want to use the directional controls as usual in menus.

Thanks for responding. Any ideas on the mouse in menus?

Edit: My setting for R Joystick is "mapped to mouse". Forgot that detail.

I don't understand. If you have an XBox controller, why do you need to map the keys (the PC version of FNV comes with native controller support)? Or do you mean you want to generate button combinations to give yourself additional 'hot keys' beyond the default Xbox controller scheme for this game?
