Installation Error

Yes. I'm back again after a few months of not even bothering in the slightest with Oblivion due to work.

I've decided to start modding once again, I have a few big mods in mind; however, I am unable to install the game because of some error to do with one of the data cabs.

The Installation progress gets around 40% when trying to apply the Data4.cab file. But then i get a message saying that it is unable to verify the version of my game.

It is an Original Copy of Oblivion: Game of the Year edition. That I bought upon its release for the PC.

Apparently Disk 3 (Knights of the Nine) has this data package aswell. But for some unknown reason, i've no idea where the disk is.

Any assistance in this problem is greatly appreciated.

I've been a member of this Nexus for quite some time, and I am aware of copyright issues. But unsure about requesting data cabs since i already have the game itself, just with a damaged cab :( If you can't acknowledge the cab request and grant me. Then its fine :P

Kind Regards,

Jav'

P.S. A big congratulations to Dark0ne for his achievements at University.

Were you trying to install Oblivion, Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine when this happened? Does it look like there is any damage or scratches on that disc?

I suggest you don't ask anyone here to give you their Data4.cab file. The moderaters will consider that piracy. I remember one occasion about a year ago where one user, "Dragon 1990", requested that anyone give their copy of Oblivion.exe to him because he was having problems. Buddah banned him for "requesting the upload of copyrighted material". Another user, "DremoraChurl", then announced in that same thread that he had uploaded his EXE file for Dragon to use. Buddah banned him as well.

Usually those kind of install problems can be traced to either a defective disk, or more likely something left behind in the windows registry when you uninstalled the game.

Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexus

Pay particular attention to the part on cleaning the registry. You MUST reboot both before and after running the registry cleaner.

I was installing the Oblivion disk - Not Shivering Isles or KotN. For the part about the Data4.cab file - I did say i was unsure about the piracy for it. Buddah knows all though.

Asking for an .exe file for a potentially different version, it probably wouldn't work anyway. Oblivion is an incredibly unstable game anyway.

Turns out my disk is damaged, and so is my Knights of the Nine disk (Disk 3) - Kinda sucks. I used the windows explorer to get the files off it, but i couldn't save data4.cab

Ordered another copy of the game today. Thanks for your help in advance :)

You're welcome. I'm sorry you have to buy a brand new copy though.

I find that Oblivion isn't as unstable as most people say. I regularly play for a few hours without any crashes. But then again, I follow most/ all of the suggestions on the website in my signature.

Nice :P I don't mind buying a new copy anyway. Plus, the GotY edition only costs like £20 or so (About $30)

The KotN disk was split from the center ring, going outwards. Also, theres a nasty scratch going through the original. A bit dissapointed, but nothing i can do about that.
