Ok I've tried everything I can think of. I want to Create a poster for my RE2 mod and I want the Umbrella logo without a background. I made a new image and edited it in Adobe photoshop CS3, made the Alpha channel and ctrl+shift+I on the logo to paste it in the alpha so now the alpha has the logo parts in white and the background in black.

Gumdrops, so I tried saving it like that, indexing it, saved it as DTX1, 2 , 3, 4 and 5 and it still shows up with the black background, or white if I make the background the transparent checker thing. nothing I seem to do works and I'm having a hard time finding any tutorials on the matter.

If anybody can help me please I would greatly appreciate it

ums we mostly use DXT-1 an DXT-5, DXT-1 would be max compression/encoding, then DXT-5 would be half that because of it having alpha which in this case is interpolated (estimated) alpha. You can use DXT-3 too (not-estimated) Mind you none of the DXT versions are going to change the way the texture looks, just how the video card can access it. DXT is just a compression language for video cards.

Me I'll DXT-1 just about any defuse (base texture) map, which if it has alpha in it, like say the two headed cow texture, it has tiny little hairs, which are alpha. The DXT-1 will erase that alpha because there is no alpha channel in DXT-1. I'm not really worried about the hairs, so I DXT-1 it because I want more performance on these huge 1024X1024 an 2048X2048 textures (player made stuff) Most guns an things don't have alpha in the defuse map. The defuse also needs mipmaps.

The normals you either DXT-3 or DXT-5 depending on how it looks in game, but most of the time it's DXT-5 which looks an works better. Then most of the texture folks out there say that it's better to have the system refresh the mip-maps on the fly, rather than encoding them into the normal map itself, so maybe uncheck it on normals. They say that it sometimes causes wierd renders, but I've checked mipmaps which were created/encoded into the normals an they look fine. So maybe that was old news.

Are you trying to create a image or a in-game poster?

That...Im trying to make that where its only the logo, no black lines, no borders. a poster yes i suppose because I want it to look like a painting on the train....not a lick em' n stick em sticker. I make the alpha channel, all those triangles in the logo are white...the rest is black...and it still shows up with the black in the geck and ingame.

This dosent work and I don't know why

okay, All I did was steal a picture of the umbrella corp logo off bing images. Which was a Jpg I think. anyhows Jpg doesn't allow alpha in the way we use it, .DDS does, the one above is a .Gif whatever that is, I just know that it doesn't auto draw backgrounds in either black or white.

The picture when I downloaded it had a black background, so basicly all I did was use the magic wand to select that black set at 50% tolerance, then delete the black it picked up, if it picked up more than the black, then I would use 25% or 15% or however much it took so that I could magic wand it, an then save it.

The only thing you would do different is do it in .DDS instead, but photobucket won't upload .dds, which is why that one above is a .GIF, Idk try save as, an change the file format, I don't know about photoshop, but paintnet will let you preview before it saves, which is where you pick the DXT an if it needs mipmaps encoded into it. But I had to pick save as in order to pick the format.

I dunno if you get what im trying to do..I want the black to be invisible, just so the red and white are visible. I do export it as a dds, ive gotten textures to work on my armors but Im trying to figure out how to make transparent parts of textures. Ive erased the black background till it was the checkered transparent thing and saved it to DDS as that and then it shows up ingame as white

uh the mesh doesn't have a normal map does it, if it still uses the old posters normal then weird stuff is going to happen, at this point you should only have a defuse on it.
