"Invalid Directory"

I cant save any G.E.C.k work I do because when I open the File>Data folder, under the G.E.C.K's master file appears the save pluggin for the G.E.C.K. That is supposed to go into your save files, but when I try uninstalling it and reinstalling it, nothing changes. Please help, this is a BIG problem and saving is a crucial commponent to the G.E.C.K! I would love to offer some advice, but this "when I open the File>Data folder, under the G.E.C.K's master file appears the save pluggin for the G.E.C.K. That is supposed to go into your save files" makes no sense at all.

What I get from this is you are clicking "File" on the command bar of the Geck, then choosing "Data". The Geck doesn't have a "master file", ESPs or pluggins do, which you can see if you highlight one in the list. You should see a list of the ESM (master files) and ESP (pluggins) in there. What is a save pluggin for the Geck? Again, that makes no sense.

If you open a "master" file to edit, you won't be able to save changes to the "Master" and the Geck will prompt you to enter a new file name when you click the "Save" button. When you enter a new file name, the Geck will save your work as a new ESP (pluggin) file. The next time you open the Geck, you need to choose this new file and set it as the "Active File" in order to continue working on it. The Geck can ONLY edit ESP files. The way you load your ESP to edit it, is to highlight it and then click the "Set as Active File" button, then click "OK".

Alright, well i'm very new to the GECK so i'm sure I said some thing's that did not make sense. Can you answer the "Invalid Directory" thing, or is that just because i'm not opening the ESP that is in the Data>File secton? How do you get it to save a an ESP? Sorry i'm sure that is a ridiculous question but i'm new so give me a bit of slack.

I didn't mean to sound like I was giving you a hard time, sorry for that. I was just trying to help without really understanding what your problem really is. I still don't. Could you give a more detailed step-by-step description of what you are doing and what the geck is doing in response? I mean, what are you doing just before the geck tells you "invalid directory" and what else does it say when you get that error message? I tried to describe the proper way of making and re-opening a new ESP, hoping that if you followed those instructions, you would not have a problem. Apparently, you still do. If you do the following, what happens at each step?

1) Open the geck

2) Go to File --> Data

3) Double click on Fallout3.esm so it has an "X" next to its name.

4) Click OK and wait for the Geck to finish loading.

5) Click the save button and enter a name like "MyTest".

6) Exit the Geck and start it up again.

7) Go to File --> Data again.

'8) Double click on "MyTest.esp" so it has an "X" next to its name

9) Click the "Set as Active File" button, then click OK.

Can you perform all of these steps without any errors popping up? If not, where does it go wrong?

Alright, well I will try to explane this the best I can. When I open the GECK, I click on File ----> Data, I click on the Fallout3.esm and wait for it to load (it does have a an x by it). I then click the save icon and enter a name (Vault416a for example)I then click on save. When I do that, an error message appears saying "Invalid Directory" I've tried to save it everywhere that I can, in all of my files, everything. Nothing works. That's all I know.

Thank's for your help in advance,

Did you install the GECK in your \Fallout\ folder? Perhaps some of the path settings for your Geckprefs.ini or GECKCustom.ini are wrong. If you delete them, the next time you open the GECK, new deault ones will be made. Try running the GECK as Admin, it just might not have rights to the \Data folder.
