When I using the Geck and when I go to save the esp file I'm working on it does not appear in the data folder, any clue to whats going on ?

Try running the GECK as Administrator. Here is the long description:

If you have Vista or Windows7, AND you installed your game in the default directory, then you will never see the mod in the data folder.

The GECK is NOT part of the game so the OS sees it as a virus or trojan program trying to change FO3 game files. This is not allowed by the OS.

Solution? Pick one of these:

1. Install your game to your Root C: drive. Like C:\Games\Fallout3\

2. Remove the security from your OS so it can join the XP computer ranks and become a Zombie computer.

3. In your \Fallout3\Data\ folder, look at the top right. There should be a button called 'Compatibility Files'. Click that to find your mod. You can then copy it from there to your Data folder.

4. Run the GECK in Administrator mode. Right-click on the icon and select, Run as Administrator.

===============

Now, if you want to install the Fallout3 game somewhere else per #1 above without loosing your current mods you have installed, you can do this:

1. Move your existing \Program Files\Fallout3\ to your C root drive in a new folder that you need to create called C:\Games\ It should look like this after the move: C:\Games\Fallout3\

2. Rename the folder you just moved in step 1 to C:\Games\Fallout003\

3. Uninstall the game. Check the option to keep your save game files. This will clear the registry and not remove any game folders because you moved them somewhere else.

3. Re-install the game to C:\Games\Fallout3\

4. After the reinstall is done, DELETE the just installed folder at C:\Games\Fallout3\

5. Rename the folder from step 2 above to C:\Games\Fallout3\

If done right, this will change the Registry to the new game folders location, plus keep everything you currently have in the protected folder location.

WARNING: If you are not computer saavy, then find someone who is to do the above for you. Or ask more questions.

hey everyone, I got the G.E.C.K working and it's alot of fun and crap. So I want to know how you make a new piece of land or how do you put your mod in a certain place? Like if I wanted my mod next to paradise fall's or whatever, how would I do that? But everyone who has posted on this topic, I thank you because I would be lost without a little guidance :D

I would love to offer some advice, but this "when I open the File>Data folder, under the G.E.C.K's master file appears the save pluggin for the G.E.C.K. That is supposed to go into your save files" makes no sense at all.

What I get from this is you are clicking "File" on the command bar of the Geck, then choosing "Data". The Geck doesn't have a "master file", ESPs or pluggins do, which you can see if you highlight one in the list. You should see a list of the ESM (master files) and ESP (pluggins) in there. What is a save pluggin for the Geck? Again, that makes no sense.

If you open a "master" file to edit, you won't be able to save changes to the "Master" and the Geck will prompt you to enter a new file name when you click the "Save" button. When you enter a new file name, the Geck will save your work as a new ESP (pluggin) file. The next time you open the Geck, you need to choose this new file and set it as the "Active File" in order to continue working on it. The Geck can ONLY edit ESP files. The way you load your ESP to edit it, is to highlight it and then click the "Set as Active File" button, then click "OK".

I know this is "Off topic" but it's my topic so, who really cares? What is your city mod that you have as your signature?

That mod is my response to the fact that I found fallout 3 far too easy. Its a tough adventure mod about the size of a DLC. If you click on the link, I have a description, some images and a short video of the monorail for it. It has a theme that you won't find too much ammo, you'll have to use your chems to survive and enemies are hard to kill. Its full of puzzles, traps, dialogue, a story line, main and side quests. That sort of thing.

Oh crap! I just realized that my sig is not a link. I'll fix that right now. Thanks for pointing that out. No wonder you didn't click on the link, Duh!

Sound's interesting, now if only I could figure out how to get the mods into Fallout... But anyway I agree that the game was a bit to easy, even on very hard, (Those deathclaws just dont know what there up against) Once I get my mod download crap problem figured out then i'll download it.
