Xerberus
Alright, so.. I downloaded some UI mod that made the menus/inventory etc a dark blood red, I'd post a link if I cared that much. Frankly I dont and am a little ticked though it's not his/her fault.. Anyway.. After installing it/running oblivion I wasnt particularly too happy with how small my health/magicka/fatigue bars were.. So I thought changing the resolution might help.. The game told me to exit oblivion and turn it back on so the changes could take effect... However, upon trying to run oblivion, it crashed.. Over and over and over and over again.. Bethesda FAQ is useless for this specific problem, and so is every other site on the intr0netz.. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.. I'm at my wit's end.. I've tried countless times to fix it, but to no avail. It's quite irritating. I REALLY dont want to un-install/re-install.. Seeing as I have 20+ mods, none of which were screwing up my gameplay BEFORE all this started to happen.. So we can rule out all of them as the source of crashing. I had never tried changing my resolution before I installed the UI mod, so I cant say for sure if changing the resolution with that UI mod is really the problem, but it's my best guess... Since it happened right after I did it :|

bben46
If resolution is your only problem you can change it manually in the Oblivion.ini outside of the game. Crashing on the intro screen can also be caused by a mod needing either the latest patch or OBSE. Be sure you have both.Just deactivating the esp in the data folder does not remove the mod, it just does not run the esp on starting. The meshes textures etc are all still there, and must be removed manually.

I didnt know I could change the res outside of the game, quick question, where exactly is the .ini? :P I have oblivion updated as much as it can be, and I have OBSE (love it).. Xerberus
I found the .ini Where in this mess of text is the res settings in the list/what's the default res?
Xerberus
By default, each time Oblivion loads up, it reads the values held in the Oblivion.ini file stored under your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion directory (or Users\[username]\Documents\My Games\Oblivion in Vista). This file can be opened and edited using a text editor like Windows Notepad or Wordpad, however before editing it, first change all of your in-game settings to the way you want them, then close Oblivion and make a backup copy of this file. If at any time you want to find the default values for any of the .ini variables, open the Oblivion_default.ini file under your \Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion directory. This file contains all the defaults for Oblivion on your system, and should never be edited or deleted. If you want the game to quickly restore all the default values for your Oblivion.ini file, simply delete the Oblivion.ini file and it will be recreated with the default values the next time you start Oblivion. This can help to quickly resolve any problems you may be having as a result of incorrectly tweaking variables, however obviously you will lose all your customizations as well as your in-game settings preferences. There's a scary thought... Deleting my .ini._.
