Skadis
I always had the impression that you can gain access to too many spells (my mage is level 22 and has bought all the books). For a lot of people this sure sounds rather strange but I'm the sort of person which prefers passive abilities and stuff, as i see no sense in having 5 normal damage attacks. I made up my mind and had two different ideas of how to add a certain depth to the mage: 1. Points System It is a quite simple system where you could spent up to 3 points in a single spell. With the first point, of course, you learn the ability, with the second and third you increase the effect of the spell by 20/40%. As this can add a lot of damage to the mage, your stat requirement per spell for rank two is +15 and for rank three +30. Example: Earthquake as suchs needs 25 magic, for rank 2 you'd need 40 and for rank 3 55. This is first of all that you can't immediately push a damage spell and so that, if you don't go for but magic, can't gain access to all the ranks of the higher spells. 2. Passive As the mage as such has only two passive skills, I really like the idea of adding 4 new rows to the "Mage" category. Mastery over water/fire/electricity/spirits. As usually, there are 4 talents per row, each increases the damage by 10/20/30/40%.
godoffire04
I completely agree!!! I'm also trying to find if anyone has or would like to make some extended runes that could help out with mages. For example runes that could be put in a sword (i.e. Arcane Warrior) that could still give them stats like +x% dmg with X element (like elec., cold, spirit). Or especially if you are using the mods that give runes to armor and such!!
thrindhuill
Then join forces and make your own game; Dragon Age; The Passive and Point System Mages.
TheInvoker
I prefer passive abilities too! Another useful thing could be (for area spells):At the third grade, instead of increasing damage, the spell hit only the enemies (like the most powerful area spells in BG2)
DarkeWolf
I completely agree!!! I'm also trying to find if anyone has or would like to make some extended runes that could help out with mages. Or especially if you are using the mods that give runes to armor and such!! The Winter Forge mod can allow you to edit a weapon/armor's properties to allow something like this. Something like increase fire damage X%. You just have to use a modicum of restraint so that you dont end up making a truckload of god items for yourself ;) http://dragonage.phaenan.net/http://social.bioware.com/project/672/ and jburrows runes can add that damage type into the weapon. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=803 the points system tho, I'm afraid that I'm no help. really sorry :(
godoffire04
Thanks DarkeWolf, I have just recently found The Winter Forge and been loving that mod! Thanks for the info on the other mod though I hadn't found that one yet!
