Gator55
Why does XCOM have to scramble to get its own satellites when there are already plenty of those in orbit for pretty much the same purpose? The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is used for monitoring the airspace above North America. So then...why can't XCOM use it? Where in the world is it? Problem:You have to rush to make satellites to monitor airspace activity when some of these already exist in real life.Solution:North America gets automatic satellite coverage from the very beginning. Simple. To counter-balance this: the aliens are more likely to target satellites over North America, so defending them will be a heavier task. Basically, more UFOs that are trying to shoot down satellites over North America.
shadowoflightt
Same reason why there's a 6 soldier limit. It's a game balance decision, not a 'we must simulate reality to the extremes' decision.
