Texture, custom weapons

Does anyone have a guide or any advice for texture editing? I basically want to create cool looking swords above the obvious 5 that the game will let me create. Does anyone know how I can get started on this? How are people doing this using the toolset? It will only let me create 5 types of swords, and yet im seeing people making swords from other games.

Ok, what they are doing, isn't done completely via the toolset. What they are doing is either A) Using 3rd party programs to rip the skins and meshes from other games, and importing them into a 3d editor (which, by technicality, is illegal, btw). Then using programs to convert them into a file format that is compatible with DA:O, then using the toolset to give the weapons stats, bonuses, etc.

B) Using said 3d modeling programs to create their own mesh (wireframe figure) and then adding a skin/texture file to it. Then trying to import those into the game, where they add the stats, bonuses, etc to it.

One of the most popular 3d progs to use is Blender. Mostly because it's FREE. www.blender.org

and there has been an addon made that allows it to export to the formats that dragon age uses.

tho, I can't tell you how to use blender, or how to extract the meshes, import them, export them, make textures, stuff like that. All I can say there, is to hunt around the web for tutorials on how to do 3d artwork.
