Having issues loading oblivion with windows 7

I have a Windows 7 64bit Install that is only a few days old, had to reinstall , so all the latest drivers and everything. The game work fine on this exact system previously with XP64bit.

I have freshly installed Oblivion off the disc and have also tried with all of the DLC and latest patches. (SI, KotN, Horse armor, mehrunes razor, orrey, spell tomes, thieves den, vile lair, and wizards tower) the patch installed is ShiveringIsles_v1.2.0416English. was going to install the full FCOM mod but had to make sure the original game worked first.

I have tried disabling and unplugging my second screen and disabling multicore gpu in the drivers but still crashes in exactly the same place.

Probably doesn't help any but Fallout3 does work fine (being in a newer version of the same engine) so has any other game i have tried playing so far.

Any help would be great

cheers

Andrew

hmm, that's strange...I guess you don't use any mods. do you?

maybe it has some issues with your graphics card, try to delete the .ini and then start oblivion.

But I guess that is not the problem..

deleting the .ini hasn't changed anything

no I'm not using any mods yet... i cant even get the game to load after a clean install straight of the dvd

i was going to go insane and put on the FCOM Mod again which is what i was playing before i stopped last time.

I've noticed that the developer logo doesnt even finish playing before i get dumped back to desktop. i thought this might be a codec issue. I've installed the K-Lite 32 and 64 bit which i always used to use until recently switching to VLC player. I also had removed Windows Media Player because i don't use it so I've reinstalled that and neither of these ideas have made a difference either.

I've even tried reinstalling oblivion to a different physical drive to no avail.

I have been trying to attack this from a Windows 7 point of view but the forum i've been troubleshooting through suggested it could be the software itself.

i'm at a loss as everything else works fine, including, morrowind, fallout3, dragon age, NWN 1 & 2, and then more technical games like crysis, batman arkham... and so on.

Check your disk for scratches. A bad scratch can cause a corrupted install.

Win7 x64 has no problems with Oblivion. Many people are using it (including me ) with no problems at all. My first guess is something wrong with your install procedure. If you had Oblivion on that sys before, and did not use the uninstall on the disk, or are installing to a different location, Oblivion leaves entries in the Windows registry that can cause problems on a reinstall.

If the game will not start on a fresh install, NO patches mods Mo Si nothing but the game - adding anything will just make it worse. Get the bare game to work first.

Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexus

http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240

Pay special attention to the part on cleaning the registry. Be sure to reboot both before and after cleaning.
