Rivana
EDIT: Never mind you guys, I've got it working now. If you can't work through a problem, you just gotta work around it. Basically I installed SI and the patches on my old computer. Then I just transferred all the files over to my new computer. Now I can get SI working like a normal mod through OBM and that, as they say, is that. Thanks anyway. :-) /End EDIT *** No, I don't have a cracked copy of Oblivion. It's legit. The sitch, in short: I installed Oblivion on my old computer. Since I didn't want to bother with the infernal disc all the time I also downloaded an .md file to mount on Daemon so I could play it whenever/wherever. Never used the disc again, moved a couple of times, lost the disc. Went on happily playing Oblivion. Forgot about the game for a while, then wanted to start playing again. The computer I installed on only has 512 Mb RAM, I've upgraded since then and now I want to move Oblivion to my stronger machine so I can play Shivering Isles, which I got recently, and a bunch of nifty mods to boot. So I copied the whole Bethesda folder to my new computer. So far, so good, everything's working. Then I read online that I should probably patch my Oblivion (never thought about it before going looking for mods), so I got the first patch and tried to install it. It said it couldn't find my registry key. "Doh!" I thought to myself and went to export the Bethesda Softworks registry files from my old computer. Imported them to the registry in my new computer and tried to install the patch again. But I still get the same damn error message - what the hell? Help? Then I figured maybe it was just a problem with the patch, so I tried installing Shivering Isles. Sadly SI Setup tells me it's unable to find my Oblivion installation. What? How? I mean the Oblivion game itself is working. What's wrong, and how do I fix it? I tried installing Shivering Isles on my old computer, just to make sure my original Oblivion install hadn't been corrupt in some way and there it works like a charm. I'm lost. Please help? bben46
You cannot just copy Oblivion to a new computer. Like most application type programs it must be installed or it will not work. And it cannot be installed from the files you have. Part of the install puts files in the Windows Registry that must be there for the game to work. Oblivion is cheap now. Check in the used game stores and on line for used versions. Or bite the bullet and buy the Game of the Year version which includes Shivering Isles. It is also available on line from Steam, But I prefer to have a real disk. Steam also has a super deluxe version with Oblivion, SI, KOTN and all DLCs. Rivana
You cannot just copy Oblivion to a new computer. Like most application type programs it must be installed or it will not work. But it does work. The Oblivion game works just fine, saves and all. If that works, just by copy and paste, I think there should be some way to make SI play nice as well.
MonsterHunterMaster
Normally copying a game to another computer will not work (okay, you can copy the folders but the game won't work!) because for example the registry gets changed and stuff like this as far as I know...Correct me if I'm wrong... Rivana
Correct me if I'm wrong...I can't comment on 'normally', but in this instance copying the game and folders works. I've got it all working now. Just took some stubbornnes.

HarukoHoshiko
I'm having a similar problem except I've never installed Oblivion but am still getting that error when I try to install with my GOTY edition. yeah I know this is necro posting, but it doesn't make my comment any less valid, also if it matters I'm running Windows 7 32 bit.
