Kethruch
Okay - Like I said I'm 43. My first computer was a PDP-8, then upgraded to a PDP-12. I'll give a bonus prize if anyone remembers what kind of disks those took. My first game was a dice rolling game I wrote for my vic-20 (unless you want to count pong for the odyssey system). For those who don't know - Chainmail was a fantasy combat system that Gary Gygax put out before the original dungeons and dragons was put out. I have campaigns that are older than most of you. Gaack!!!! I'm feeling old! Help me, I need my Ensure!!! Get the O2!!! Okay, okay, panic attack done. I'm glad I have access to a forum that allows me to interact with everyone. It at least makes me feel young for a while.
Adrian Laguna
My first computer was a PDP-8, then upgraded to a PDP-12. I'll give a bonus prize if anyone remembers what kind of disks those took. From my recently aquired, sketchy knowledge:The disk drives were RK03 and RK05, the disks themselves may or may not have the same name as the drives, I don't know. These machines used a magnetic tape called DECtape, I don't know wheter it is the hard drive, part of the disks put into the aforementioned disk drives, or something else altoghether. I only know it was removable, portable, and, unlike other magnetic tapes, it did not suffer from potential loss of data if treated semi-roughly (i.e. droped on the floor), it was also the predecessor to the floppy-disk. Did you actually own the PDP-8/-12, or was it part of a laboratory? It was $18,500 for a PDP-8. Also, I assume by "upgraded" you don't mean "bought a new one", but rather the actual meaning of upgrading (adding new parts to increase performance), since only 725 PDP-12 were manufactured. You need not worry about being old, the way I see it you are a large repertory of historical information, I kind of wish my turned-50-this-year dad was older so I could ask him about even more things, but I think I prefer it this way so I get to keep him for 30 years more, barring something like an accident. Oh, and could you direct me to some website where I could get some text-based RPGs?Also that Chainmail game sounds intriguing...
Kethruch
Congratulations! I didn't think there were many out there who knew what these even were. Correct on all accounts - though it sounds like you got a little help. The machines were part of a lab. The fun thing about the machines was that they were adapted later to take 12" disks. Text based RPGs - are you asking for the actual paper and pencil ones Like D&D or the old single player text games for the old computers? Adrian Laguna
Single player text games for the old computers. Compatible with my Windows XP Home Edition (should have gotten Profesional) of course. I, unfortunately, cannot find anyone to play Dungeons & Dragons with. People my age just don't seem to have the patience to play that kind game. I can only play chess with my Dad, and he only visits once a month. On top of that Axis & Allies has been collecting dust for almost five years (I asked for it as a birthday present when I was 10), nobody is interested in playing! :( What is wrong with teenagers today!!??  Whew... had to get that out of my system, but it still bugs me, which is strage, considering I am 14.92 years old. Kethruch
Have you looked into our RP section? It's not just Morrowind that is being played. Let's see, 14.92, your birthday is on December 5? If you want to continue this, let's move elsewhere, so we won't be charged with thread hijacking.

Daerk
As a note, I owned a PDP-10 (actually, pops did. But that was close enough for me). :) to stay on topic: It seems as if my suspicions are proved, or we have some joking radicals here. We have an age range covered with almost at least 1 person in each category between ages 5 and 70. :D -- D
Reborn87
Im 16 and 9 months, and school is a pregnant-dog at this stage :( EDIT: as u can guess i didn't type in pregnant-dog :P . i was under the impression that the 'B' word actually meant female dog. Who's right, the system or me?

Who's right, the system or me? It's a dual defined jargon word. Basically, a pregnant female is more of a "B" than a regular female. Also it tends to most commonly be defined as "Female Canine", so referring to the canine as being pregnant enhances the "pregnant-dogyness" of the word. -- D
Reborn87
but strictly speaking, it is a female canine, right? I know quite a few dog breeders and they all use the 'b' word in this sense. Anyway this is getting OT....
