Check the install instructions for OBSE to be sure you installed it properly.

Will the game start & run without OBSE?

If you have a mod that requires OBSE, you must disable it also to run without OBSE.

If none of these suggestions help, a load list might.

It is not the OBSE i had the same problems with the game BEFORE i installed the mods i was hoping that the Unoffical patch would fix the problem i was having. It is also not the mod order as i have checked this by disabling all of the mods.

The game with nothing edited running from the steam launcher loads up then straight away black screen and that error code.

Ok im a bit confussed as to how i install it i have the steam version of the Game and my OBSE is located in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion it is just a few files in there no folder ... yet the installer tells me to put it in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\data\OBSE so do i create this file here and that means it will work ? Im not too sure as it seems the steam version of the OBSE is different to if you have the normal game ?

I put it into the C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\data\OBSE and i still get the error upon loading should i just put it into the C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion directory ?

I have tried it in the directories of

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\data\OBSE\plugins

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\OBSE\plugins

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\plugins

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\

Still crashes on load seems like it doesnt fix it :( starting to get annoyed with this dammed game now doesnt seem like it will ever work properly ....

It dosn't care if you are running the steam version or DVD version. Put it here

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion\data\OBSE\plugins

From the readme:

Copy "weOCPS.dll" to "Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins" folder. Create folders if needed.

Remove or move "Elys_CrashShield.dll" (recommended, see "Elys_CrashShield.txt" on details).

There could be unpredictable errors,

if you don't delete "Elys_CrashShield.dll" in "Data\OBSE\Plugins"! I've warned you!

Adding more stuff will definitely not fix it if it doesn't work. Get back to the vanilla version - at least until it works. Then start adding mods.

Here is my revert to vanilla article - how to go back to the original state without reinstalling.

If that doesn't work:

I have uninstalled and reinstalled and i still get the EXACT same error in the vanilla state of the game with NO MODS. I put the file were you said and it still had no effect on the crash so it seems like were going nowhere ....

Also the installer guide is for the Disc version i am using the Steam version.

If you are using the Steam version of the game:

1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion".

2. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll. You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor.

So for the steam version you need the obse_steam_loader.dll rather than the obse_loader.exe (unless using the editor)
