rapturemachine
So. Utter n00b here. I'm doing the "Where Spirits Have Lease" quest. I'm on the part where I talk to Velwyn at Imperial City and he agrees to come back to Anvil to help me open the portal. I have the journal and the skeletal hand in my inventory. I mosey on back to Anvil, go into The Count's Arms, and he's not standing where my green arrow is pointing to. All right, fine. I know this is an old problem, and I've read others' recommendations to wait a while, since his travel speed isn't the same as mine. I wait for an hour; nothing. A few hours; nothing. 24 hours, and he's still not there! My question is... when they say to "wait a while", how long should I give him before I get worried? Also, I'm traveling on horseback (Shadowmere). I've tried traveling on foot, but, when I get to Anvil, I get the "your horse is stabled outside the city gate" message, so I think it automatically assumes I want to travel on horseback even if I don't explicitly go to the stables and get on my horse. I've also tried advancing the quest through the console, and it doesn't help since it won't open the portal for me. Another thing I read is that you have to go into the basement and investigate the portal yourself before Velwyn will appear in Anvil. I tried that, and it didn't seem to work, but all I did was go down there and hit the use key on it a couple of times. Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way? Long story short, how long should it take for Velwyn to get to Anvil? EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED.On top of being new, I am now embarrassed. Right after I posted this, I got the idea to wait a full 72 hours. That did the trick. If someone could kindly tell me how I delete this post, it'd be much appreciated.
Maigrets
One thing I read on the UESP site is if you have your game set to a different timescale than the default it can cause this issue.Spoilers here:http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Where_Spirits_Have_Lease But this problem is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. You might want to get that since it fixes hundreds if not more bugs and glitches in the vanilla game. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296 You'll probably have to start the quest again or at least go back to a different stage if you have an earlier save during the quest. I'm not sure if the Patch will automatically fix it at the stage you're currently at, but it's worth a try.
