I installed an stock armor and clothes replacer. roberts average stock replacer and thought everything was ok untill I went into the imperial city and noticed all male charactors are invisibe with purple streamers coming off their bodys, I tried backing up with clothes and armor folder stored but loading up the save still had exactly the same problem. Does anyone know whats happening and any advice on what I can do. I'll be gutted if I have to reinstall oblivion again ugh!

And make sure you have the Roberts Av. male body replacer installed too. Sometimes, clothing meshes simply change the shape of the body beneath them, but I've seen freaky things happen with some replacers which included, in no particular order; Vanishing meshes (wtf signs) walking heads (most likely invisible/missing textures), Men with breasts (don't ask. Long story and my own fault. But it was bloody funny), purple clothes and even fella's doing Murzik's sexy walks. (it seems the guys in my Oblivion game got a lil confused, eh? :D )

. . . walking heads (most likely invisible/missing textures) . . .

Sorry to thread-jack, but I've got nearly all the males in the game walking around like this. It appears to be only male clothing that is the problem.

I did a re-install and then ran it without loading any mods, and the problem remains (I did not delete the mods though, and reinstalled back into the same folder.)

I'm using Robert's SlAth body for men, but the problem pre-dates my installation of that mod.

When you reinstall without getting rid of the mods, any problem caused by a mod will still be there. any mod that was previously installed could have left a mesh or texture behind to be used by the new install.

This will allow you to go back to the vanilla state while keeping your mods in a new folder away from the game until you are ready to put them in.

Here is my revert to vanilla article - how to go back to the original state without reinstalling.

Thanks very much. I'll get onto that right away.

I noticed that when I went into the construction set I got warnings on some of the offending items, even with only the main oblivion file loaded. I guess this agrees with what you are telling me :)

I'm glad to say that a nice, clean Vanilla Installation has sorted it out. I'm doing the painful reloading of mods one by one, but it could be a lot worse. Thanks for the advice.

As to what did it, I don't know yet. I did notice that Shivering Isles was listed twice in the DLCList.txt when I copied it over, but I wasn't sure if that was normal. I edited the second reference out and it runs fine.

If you're careful with your mods (re- use OMOD or BAIN to install EVERYTHING) and keep a close eye on that good old archieve invalidation whatsit whilst you're at it, one install can last a helluva long time. Make regular back ups of your working data folder and keep the zips of every mod you install so you can track what it does and always have the readme's kicking around so you know where you are and you should be golden.

Unfortunately, every once in a while the installation can just go south, no matter how careful you are. Thats the same with any software. It just seems more frequent with Oblivion.

Thanks for all the stirling help, the game is chugging along perfectly.

The only problem I can think it might have been is installing Millstone Cottage with OBSE16 running. I've reloaded everything else but that mod and am having no problems at all. I've got OBSE 17 now, but I think I'll hold off on installing that mod for a bit.
